There is nothing better than helping our community and having a good
time doing it. On Friday, July 9, Geno Gianoli, Susan Wendt,
and Ed Bowen represented our club at the local food pantry.
By the sound of it, the pantry helped a large number of local
families that day. As you can
see, There were smiles all around.
Builder’s Club
The Builders Club members had a wonderful
end-of-the-year reward trip to Great
America. The students had to earn the right
to attend by participating in a minimum
number of service hours over the course of
the past year.
It was a gorgeous June day, and everyone
who went had wonderful time. What a nice
way to end our very first year as a brand new
Key Club Meets with Kiwanis at DCM
During the Kiwanis Divisional Council Meeting, there was a joint session
held with the Key Clubbers, who were also presenting their Divisional
Meeting in a separate room in the same Boys and Girls Club location.
This joint Kiwanis/Key Club activity was a wonderful success. The
Kiwanis members and Key Clubbers were divided into small groups to
discuss ways that they could help each other and means for fostering
better communication this coming year. Once each group had discussed
their specific topic, they chose a reporter to explain to the group-at-large
what they felt was important to share. Shown here is Greg Carter,
reporting on his group's discussion.
Kiwanis DCM
The DCM was on June 19th in Santa Rosa hosted by Santa Rosa, Redwood
Empire, & Oakmont Club. Also, the Key Club held their DCM at the same
time & same place so it was a joint venture. The Kiwanis members really
enjoyed getting together with the Key Club and both groups had a good time.
We also heard from Gary Christenson from the Kiwanis Family House. He has
invited all of the clubs to take a ride to see the new facility. We saw a video
that The Luther Burbank School made for the Oakmont Club. Oakmont
planted trees, gave books and has taken that school under their wing. It was
wonderful to see how much they appreciated the work that the Oakmont Club
has done for them. We heard from Greg Carter about the Imagination Library
and Rich Fuller about the Key Leader week-end that was held in our area. The
director of the Boys & Girls Club in Santa Rosa talked to us about grants and
what they have done for their club.
Distinguished Kiwanis Family Award
Kiwanis President Bob Leonard receives the
"Distinguished Kiwanis Family " Key Club Award from
members of the Cloverdale Key Club. Yanely Sanchez,
Key Club Co-President, prepared the application for this
award. It requires the Key Club to document the bond
between the Key Cub and it's parent Kiwanis Club.
Cloverdale High School was the only club in the district
to receive this award. But, it couldn't have been done
without the complete and total backing of the Kiwanis
Club. The award is really about how the two clubs help
each other. Points were given on everything from
attending each other's meetings to doing joint projects
together, to co-sponsoring the Builders Club. The Key
Clubbers felt that the receipt of this award would not
have been possible without the Kiwanis Club. That's
why Yanely thought it would be a great idea to give the
medal to Bob Leonard..... as a thank you for what a great job the Cloverdale Kiwanis Club is doing in sponsoring the
high school Key Club.

Key Club Officers’ Retreat
The 2010-11 Key Club officers recently met for an overnight
retreat at the Cummins' house, with the intent of
beginning to make plans for the upcoming school year.
They held some intense debates and then had a wonderful
time in the pool, spa, making S'mores at the campfire pit,
and staying up until 3:00 a.m. playing a killer game of
Taboo. One of the exciting things they decided is that they
plan to go after a Kiwanis Youth Opportunities Fund Grant
to do a "Cloverdale Goes Green" project this coming year!
You'll be hearing more details about this exciting project as
plans are fleshed out in the coming months. Pictured are
some, but not all of this year's officers.
Key Club At The June Board Meeting
Key Clubbers recently attended the June Kiwanis Board meeting.
Here they are posing with Kiwanis Board members, Laurie Kneeland
and Sue Jackson. The Key Clubbers pictured are brother and sister
Eric Perez and Marlene Perez. The significant thing about this
particular event is that on that evening Eric was submitting his
application to become the newest Cloverdale Kiwanis member. His
application was unanimously accepted, so he instantly transformed
from being a Key Clubber to a Kiwanian! Congratulations Eric on
being the youngest Cloverdale Kiwanis member!
