CHANGING ROOM FUND
The year started with ex Liverpool Legend
Jan Molby supporting the club at a Sporting
Evening at the Fire Service College. A great
evening of football stories and comedy saw
over £3000 raised for the Changing Room
Fund. A Bingo event followed with great
support from the regular Bingo goers in
Moreton, and prizes being donated from
many local businesses.
We held a Six A Side Tournament during the
summer which again was well supported by
local teams and in particular the team of
locals from the Black Bear Pub. August bank
holiday weekend saw our 24hour Bike Ride
when on static cycles in Moreton High
Street club members and supporters
covered over a 1000 miles. Our now annual
10k Fun Run took place in October.
During all this time the Changing Rooms
were being built at London Road with the
help of club members donating their skills
and labour to get them completed in time
for the start of the season in September. We
exceeded our expectations in completing
this work in this time, and ensured our
acceptance into the Gloucestershire
Northern Senior League.
As we look back over 2010 it has been a momentous year for the club when we have all pulled together to set the
club up for the future. With the need to build new changing rooms following the fire that destroyed the old ones in
late 2009 we needed to raise funds as quick as possible.
2010 - a momentous year for the club
Plans to create a new high class green and bowling centre for
Moreton-in-Marsh Bowls Club are at last underway, as work
commences on new facilities, scheduled to be completed in
April 2012.
Founded in 1909, this thriving bowls club currently uses the
green adjacent to Moreton-in-Marsh Hospital on Hospital Road.
The Club moved to this site in 1913, from grounds just across
the road, but after a 98 year residency the land lease drew to a
close, and as a result, the club was faced with losing its home
ground. For only the second time in its 101 year history, the
ON THE PITCH
On the Pitch our First Team won the Cheltenham League First Division by a clear 20
points so were promoted to the Northern Senior League. Our Reserve Team were
runners up in the Stratford Cutler Division so were also promoted. We started a
new Colts team as we had so much interest in playing for the club.
Our Junior Teams continued to provide football for local youngsters with new
teams starting at Under 8 and Under 10 level along with the current Under 11, 13
and 14 teams. We are in particular indebted to Moreton Cricket Club for the use of
pitches for our Junior Teams at their Batsford Road Ground.
So we would like to thank all the businesses, charities and people who have
supported the club over the past 12 months and let’s hope 2011 is a good a year
for Moreton Rangers.
(It will be of no surprise that there is little to report on the football front for
December as the weather put pay to most of Moreton Rangers Teams Games.)
98 years – well bowled!
From Pat Wainwright (patinthecotswolds@live.co.uk)
search began to find an area suitable for the creation of a
quality green and a new clubhouse to enable the club to survive.
With strong support from its 94 members, the various
authorities and local people, the Bowls Club has now secured a
lease from the Town Council, for new grounds behind the Esso
garage on the A429, and embarked on what promises to be an
exciting major development of a new, high class, quality venue.
We are now looking forward to April 2012 and to welcoming old
and new friends.
