Wheel Heroes 100s – Cyclists Fighting Cancer

Dawes Cycles has got behind the Cyclists Fighting Cancer
charity, sponsoring a major fundraising event on May 22nd
when The Wheel Heroes 100s’ will take place in either a 100
mile or 100 km ride around Stratford on Avon, Chipping
Campden and Stow on the Wold.
Cyclists Fighting Cancer (CFC) donates bikes, specially adapted
trikes and tandems to children and young people affected by
cancer to encourage them to get active again. CFC was set up by
Mike Grisenthwaite, himself a cancer survivor and keen cyclist.
Grisenthwaite sai.: "Having Dawes on board for the Wheel
Heroes event is fantastic I am passionate about making this
event a fun and exciting experience for everyone who takes part
whilst helping raising the cash to help kids affected by cancer.
Something as simple as a bike really does change their lives and
the money raised at this event will help us donate even more
bikes in the future.
“Stratford offers superb cycling terrain for all abilities along the
picturesque highways and byways of Warwickshire and the
adjacent counties of Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and
Oxfordshire. It will be a fantastic day of cycling for everyone
who enjoys riding a bike.”
The ride begins and ends at Stratford Racecourse, Luddington

A ‘Spinners’ Challenge
7th March starting at 9am
at Bourton Leisure Centre
Nicki Banks teaches indoor cycling, and has decided to set
her regular 'spinners' a challenge for the new year – a 100
mile cycle session. This should take approximately 4 hours.
They hope the challenge will raise funds for two local
charities - 'Kates Carers' and 'Breathe Easy'.
Nicki will lead/teach the session with 15 other cyclists
(hopefully more, subject to borrowing more bikes from
Cirencester Leisure Centre).

There was mixed news at the beginning of December. The
Cotswold School’s ’s new Sports Hall would be ready for
community use at the turn of the year, with non- slip floors,
no stacked chairs behind the baseline of the court, high
ceiling, contrasting wall colours with the shuttle….
…at a cost quite a lot more than that we have been used to.
So, its back to the calculator to see what we can afford and
hope we can reach a compromise in order that badminton
can have facilities equal to football and hockey. No one gets
something for nothing – not today – but there is a limit to
what people can afford to pay and there is a demand for
badminton - as witnessed by the 24 players struggling to get
a game in on one court between 7.30 and 8.30pm on the
first evening back after the new year!

Moreton Fire College - A group of 5/ 6 older players meet
every Friday at 7.30pm. They are short of players for
doubles.
Stow Badminton Club is sad to report the death on the 30th
December 2010 of their long time Chairman Cecil Haslam.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and long be
remembered as a wonderful friend and pleasure to be with.
On a happier note the Club now has several new members
and looks forward to 2011 on a more optimistic note. JN. Sec.

Run the Marathon for
the Countryside Alliance
The Countryside Alliance is looking for runners to be part of
its Virgin Atlantic Marathon Team, so if you aim to get fit in
2011, this could be the challenge for you.
The 2011 marathon takes place on Sunday 17th April. If you
think you have got what it takes to run the gruelling
26.2miles around the famous course and raise vital funds for
the Alliance then please email alison-hawes@countrysidealliance.org
for an application form.
The Countryside Alliance is looking for individuals who feel
they have enough friends, contacts and colleagues to be able
to raise £5,000. If you think that this could be you, then you
will be considered for a guaranteed place through the
