CHIPPING NORTON TIMES From the Editor We were reminiscing the other day about holidays when we were at school – aeons ago! Whatever we were doing it’s interesting how we don’t remember much about the weather – trips to the beach, that cycle ride across fields when the cows become too curious, eating a picnic in the car because it hailed – but were the summers hot, wet, windy? - Can’t remember! Will our families look back at the photographs of the Diamond Jubilee and remember the extreme weather - or perhaps, in hindsight, it won’t seem to have been so extreme. Both ends of the spectrum were enjoyed (this might not be the word that everyone would use) in Chippy last month with the excessive amount of rain that fell, and the amazingly good time that people had as they celebrated the Diamond Jubilee and <strong>Chipping</strong> <strong>Norton</strong> Festival. Residents were promised a ‘time to celebrate’ and as the bunting went up the excitement grew and nothing was going to stop people celebrating in style. The whole event was a credit to the hard work of a great team of councillors, businesses and volunteers, together with their partners the local authorities, the local police and the district ‘clean up’ team. Regulars say it was ‘the best Festival yet’ as people visited, danced, laughed, played games, listened and applauded – and applauded! The weekend was full of memorable moments and people will have been glad to be here. <strong>July</strong>? <strong>July</strong> is different – and the weather may be different too, while people are planning days out at fetes, fairs, open gardens, concerts and shows. This edition of the magazine has pages of events to tempt you out and about locally and we hope that, despite the weather, you will have good memories of <strong>July</strong> <strong>2012</strong>! A small community magazine is possibly an ‘interesting’ place to start, and we had an enjoyable and varied week – and worked quite hard. The ‘highlight’ and main piece of work was an interview with Prue Leith, who generously shared her thoughts and experiences with Amber (read her interview on pages 14 & 15). The trusty team of regulars are always appreciated, and my Thanks go to Christabel Hardacre, Jane Gleghorn and Jan Marley for their help. This month has more than its share of wonderful photographs with contributions from Mike Boyes, the Hartley family, Nicky Scott-Frances and Gillian Carr, with the Diamond Jubilee providing a wonderful excuse.
