Patent No. (Basic) US 4659909 A 8704218718
The detector is mounted externally of the stove end supplies an electrical signal when smoke is detected. A power cutoff device is
connected to and actuated by the sigoal-snpply for automatically intemrpting the supply of power through a power-conveyor to the stove when
smoke is detected. The relay is interposed between the stove plug and its wall receptacle. The power cutoff device automatically grounds the
power-conveyor upon receipt of the signal so as to actuate a circuit breaker and require manual resetting of the latterbefore the supply of power
to tbe stove carsbe resumed. ADVANTAGE Lessens resulting damage should fwe occur. No modit%ation to internal stove circuitry required.
Fire alarm system for domestic appliance comprises dedicated smoke sensor to supply signals to isolating relay for disconnecting power supply
Patent Assignee: (MA.W) MALIK S
WPI ACCNo: 94-257294/32
N94-202751
Patent No. (Basic> GB 2275556 A 9408319432
A dedicated smoke sensor unit (10, 15) is instzdledproximate the appliance and wired to a isoladng relay unit (23) housed in a module
thatplugs into the mains socket (13). The applimce power lead in turn be connected into the maimscircuit via tie module. A remote alarm unit
is connected through the mains wiring and the system draw power from the mains supply to drive each unit Alternatively, the system can be
batterypowered nnduse radio frequency technology. When smoke is detected inthe body of the appliance the remote alarmnn~ battery or mains
powered, is activated by coded signals and the circuit sinmitaneously isoIatesthe mains power to the appliance whZst activating fme extinguishers
(24) when f~d. USE/~VANTAGE Appliance such as washer-driers and tumble driers which use heating elements and are prone to catching
fwe. Invariably, such appliances are installed irsor close to kitchens where smoke detectots are impractical due to cooking fumes.
