This is a description of a sun water pump, for<br />

the drive of which, a power element made of<br />

nitinol with the shape memory, is used. Such an<br />

element changes its shape when it is heated up,<br />

and when it cools down. It is heated up by the<br />

sun rays, and it cools down with water or after<br />

being shadowed by a curtain. The power<br />

element’s shape change is used for the pump’s<br />

drive or any other device.<br />

Millions of Russian citizens like to work in their<br />

gardens. And that means that together with the<br />

other gardening stuff the watering of the garden<br />

plants needs to be done too. The water for that<br />

may be pumped with an electric pump from the<br />

garden well.<br />

But unfortunately, the electric power is getting<br />

more expensive. That’s why the question about<br />

searching for the new ways of energy saving<br />

stands very sharply, both for the big enterprises<br />

and for an individual alike.<br />

A pump for the water lifting from a well at the<br />

sun’s energy expenses is mostly wanted. It<br />

would be very good if such a pump, attached to<br />

a well, in a dump, cloudy weather does not work<br />

and keeps its motor’s resource, because the<br />

garden watering is not needed in conditions like<br />

that. It is not bad, when in a hot, sunny weather<br />

the pump starts working by itself, collecting the<br />

water for the evening watering. And it should<br />

work independently, always when the sun<br />

shines, without any man’s intrusion.<br />

The hotter the sun’s heat, the more water is<br />

needed for irrigation; and the pump must work<br />

more energetically the whole time, in order to<br />

supply more water.<br />

Such a fascinating pump is attainable to make.<br />

The main knot of a pump like that is the power<br />

element, which is made of metallic alloy with<br />

the shape memory.<br />

The first time in history alloys like that were<br />

produced about 60 years ago. However, at that<br />

time they were made on the basis of gold; and<br />

they did not find any practical use then, because<br />

of their high prices. Later the shape memory<br />

alloys were produced on more accessible metals’<br />

basis. Some of those metals are known at the<br />

present time. One of the most accessible is the<br />

alloy of nickel and titanium mixed<br />

approximately in equal proportions. An alloy<br />

like that is called nitinol.<br />

These alloys’ specialty is in their ability to<br />

jumpily transform their shape during a heating<br />

up to the determined temperature. During the<br />

cooling, an element made of nitinol alloy gets<br />

back to its original shape. This happens, because<br />

of the alloy’s atomic structure restoration. The<br />

forces, appearing for the duration of this, are<br />
