• -Act specifically on calcium channel subunits
called α2δ1. It is unclear how this action leads to
their antiepileptic effects, but inhibition of
neurotransmitter release may be one
mechanism
• -Used in add-on therapy for partial seizures and
tonic-clonic seizures
• -Less sedating than classic AEDs
