Erythema/Eschar Formation: 1.3<br />

Oedema: 1.1<br />

Comment: Well defined erythema which cleared by Day 7 and slight to<br />

moderate oedema which cleared by 96 hours. Desquamation<br />

was noted at all treated skin sites during the study and<br />

persisted at the Day 14 observation. This was considered<br />

reversible.<br />

Result: Gulftene 14 was slight to moderately irritating to the skin of<br />

rabbits.<br />

Test substance: Gulftene 16 (1-hexadecene)<br />

Species/strain: Rabbit/New Zealand White<br />

Number/sex of animals: 5 males, 1 female<br />

Observation period: 1, 24, 48, 72, 96 hours, 7 and 14 days post exposure<br />

Method of administration: A single semi occluded application of 0.5 mL of the neat test<br />

substance to intact skin; after 4 hours residual test substance<br />

was removed by gentle swabbing with 74% industrial grade<br />

methylated spirits;<br />

A contralateral area of untreated skin served as the control<br />

site. Control sites were similarly swabbed.<br />
