Club J End of Year News The first year of Club J will end on the 20 th May 2012 and what a busy year we have had! The teams grew from four to six over the year, as the pre-school children joined the Club for the first time. Lots of other firsts happened as well, with a new format being introduced both within Club J and during the monthly family services and the children having their first experiences of Holy Communion. At Christmas a ‘Make and Do stall’ was erected at the fair and of course the Nativity play was its usual organized chaos! Central to the changes made this year was the introduction Junior Praise and to opening and closing prayers at the Club. With help from Louise we also had the start of a praise group and hope that this will be built on next year. We started the year with 30 children and learnt about The Good Samaritan, Noah’s Ark and making good choices in life, with the story of the wise man building his house upon a rock. We created Daniel in the Lions Den and over the year the lions pride has disappeared from the wall in the hall! After Christmas we continued to include crafts in the club and made fish as we became ‘fishers of men’, learnt how Jesus walked on water and why Zacchaeus climbed a tree. Following the Women’s World of Prayer the children wrote their own prayers and these will be read out at the family service on the 20 th May 2012. We end the year with 64 children registered and while our average number each week is in the 40’s this is an encouraging start. We rejoice that 8 of our 12 Disciples team were confirmed this year. Three of the girls have already appeared back at Club J to become leaders which is an encouraging sign for the future and we welcome them with open arms. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents, grandparents, parishioners (and those I have forgotten) for supporting Club J over the last year. We hope to see you on the 9th September 2012 to do it all again! Julie Club J The Dove CHRISTIAN AID Be Friends with Jesus Christian Aid works to bring an end to poverty around the world - tackling its root causes as well as its effects. It helps people of all faiths and none, providing urgent, practical and effective assistance, seeking to give communities the tools and skills to find their own solutions to poverty. Here in Mossley we take part in Christian Aid week by collecting donations given by our parishioners in church and by organizing house-to-house collections in the Mossley, Lakeview and Ravensdale areas. A VERY BIG THANK YOU to all the collectors and workers - Lee Whiteside, Larry Lennox, Liz Holmes, Carolyn Caldwell, Barbara Davies, Florence Halliday, Barbara Boyd, Rosemary Bennett, Anne Arbuthnot, Gayle Hanna, Anne Wilkie, Lorraine Jackson, Maureen Steenson, Audrey Cutcliffe and Marguerite Wilkie, the Tea Brew, and all those who generously donated using the envelopes in church pews. Miracles can happen! We believe in life before death! You can make a difference! Parish Opinion Survey We would like to thank everyone who completed and returned their Parish Opinion Surveys. We had a great response with some very interesting additional comments. Results of this survey will be presented to the Vestry at their June meeting at which stage we can decide how to proceed, these results will also be available in the next edition of the magazine, but can assure you all that no changes will take place without further consultation. The Dove BADMINTON CLUB We have had another successful year at the badminton club. Fitness levels have increased for the small band of committed members who attend each week. The craic is always good and we don’t take it too seriously. With the season coming to an end we decided to hold our delayed Christmas dinner at the end of March in The Bureau, Whiteabbey. A good night was had by all!! In April we supported Mallusk Play School at their Annual Table Quiz to help them to raise much needed funds for a replacement building and finished a very commendable third without the help of mobiles and despite the fact that we had eleven and the Rector in our team. As Kitchener said ‘Your Country Needs You’ ....forget that.....’Your Badminton Club needs You’ Next season we would be glad to see more new members any Thursday night from 7.30 to 9 ish. Contentment comes when God’s will is more important than our wants. . Youth Club It has come to the end of another youth club year. This year we have seen some great changes in the growth of the club. Our numbers are up to 25-30 children each week and it’s great to see such interest in the youth club. Our funds are up slightly and next year we hope to do more. The rest of the leaders and myself hope to organise more trips out with the children, to the cinema, ice skating, bowling and mini golf. We have always had a problem trying to find leaders. Lisa-Marie, Kathryn, Gavin and myself are there every week. June, who was a full time leader has stepped down but offered to help out once a month for which I am very grateful, but we still need more part-time leaders. Just once a month would be such a help and would take the pressure off our full time leaders. A very big thank you is due to all who help out with the youth club. We all look forward to seeing you back after the summer holidays in September.
