The Dove The Dove Magazine To date only one third of those who receive ‘The Dove’ have paid the £5 annual subscription for 2012. If you have not as yet paid, and wish to continue receiving the magazine we would once again request you to place your subscription in an envelope and mark your name and address on the outside. This can then be handed to your magazine distributor, placed on the church collection plate, or handed to either of the church wardens. Should you prefer not to receive any further magazines please inform your distributor, the church wardens or telephone Ken Jackson 02890/294967 Bric-a-Brac At the time of writing it had just been approved that there will be a furniture sale on Saturday 23 June. As you know bric-a-brac runs every Saturday morning throughout the year but this is an opportunity to move some of the larger items stored in Albert’s shed. My love of bric-a-brac is well documented and I am encouraging anyone who hasn’t been to pop along and have a look round. You never know what you might find and the price will be easy on your pocket. Unlike some of the other organisations bric-a-brac does run throughout the year and this does give us problems when setting out the merchandise and putting it away. With people on holiday and so on it leaves us short-handed and it is a relief when we are able to leave it out for the following week. I sympathise that it is not aesthetically pleasing on the eye and to some it just looks like a pile of junk but it has made significant revenue for the church. I am hoping Clifford Bell can confirm that it makes around £100 - £150.00 per week not to mention what Albert manages to sell through newspaper ads. On behalf of the bric-a-brac team I ask for your patience and recognise that it is not an ideal solution to our storage problem but for now it seems our only option. I would like to add that we had extra help to put away stock last week thanks to Victor and the Rector. It really takes no time at all if there are enough people doing it and should only take about a half hour. When writing the last piece for the Dove magazine I knew I would forget to mention some names who contribute to the smooth running of our Saturday morning sale. Imagine my horror when I realised I had left out Ella who makes tea for us all ably supported by Marguerite and Anne – they are kept busy with a steady queue of customers enjoying a sit down with a cuppa. Lee Whiteside who helps put out on a Friday morning was not mentioned and I am happy to be able to put that right. Following last week’s Sunday Service we had a brief meeting and it was suggested that we take this opportunity to thank the people who have donated items and in some cases whole house clearances over the last number of years. This is what keeps us going and we could not survive without regular donations. We would also like to thank our regular parishioners who come faithfully every week to support our efforts. It is not necessary to buy every time although generally they do. We remain grateful that they pop in for a chat and a chance to catch up with any news (gossip), the Bennett grandchild for instance was a really nice bit of news and we wish parents Fiona and Michael all the best for the future. Look forward to seeing you on Saturday Barbara Davies Bric-a-Brac 14th Newtownabbey Boys Brigade Our thanks to all the Officers and Boys who made last year such a success in the 14th, Our year came to an end with a very successful and enjoyable Parent’s Night, followed by a Fun Night a fortnight later. In preparation the new season, an Officers Meeting will be held on Tuesday 21st August at 7-30pm to plan our themes for our monthly programmes. The situation with the 14th at present is an increase in our junior Section numbers which is encouraging for the rebuilding of our Company Section in the next year or so. Our Anchor Boys with a record attendance are the jewel in the crown and hold a vast potential for the long term future of the Company. The Dove Indoor Bowling Club The Club held the Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 28th March in the Parish Hall at which a very good number of members attended. The Club members will run the gardening stall for the Garden Fete on the 16th June and we will be be looking forward to meeting old friends and others interested in in gardening. Indoor bowling will recommence on Wednesday 29th August at 7.30 p.m, and this will take the form of an open night. Everybody will be welcome and if you come along we will provide Bowls ,instruction ( if needed), and a cup of tea . Skip Guild of Intercessors It will be further enriching to our worship at Mossley if some members of the Congregation lead the intercessions from time to time. Initially, this could happen at the morning communion service on the second Sunday of each month. If more people are willing to give it a go we could expand it further. You don’t need to write the prayers yourself or to make them up on the spot. I have plenty of books I could lend anyone who would like to give it a try. You would be given plenty of notice. Anyone wishing to become an intercessor and lead the prayers occasionally in this way, please speak to me about it. Neil Employees in match factories often find it hard to strike. ZUMBA Dance yourself fit and into great shape with a Zumba dance class. Zumba is a Latin inspired dance routine that has become very popular worldwide . It is easy to follow, anyone can do it whatever your age or ability. No dance experience required and you do not need a partner . The music gets you in the mood, makes you fell good and the dance routine is an exhilerating and fun way to burn calories and tone the body. We now have a Zumba class in our Parish Hall on Thursday evenings at 6.00pm to 6.45pm. Forty-five minites of dance and fun from our instructor Heather who, at the end of the class, shares with us a passage of scripture that provides inspiration and food for thought . Join us for Zumba - You'll Love it !! 226th Mossley Parish Girls Brigade We would like to thank everyone who came to our Parent’s Evening. It was a great night and all the girls performed well and enjoyed themselves. Well done to all our prize winners! Our summer outing will be in June to Crosskennan Lane Animal Sanctuary. The girls will learn the basics of caring for animals, grooming and a pony ride! We will also get a your of the animal sanctuary and see all the animals that have been rescued and cared for. We are already planning our new session in September and we hope to have a few themed evenings along the way to include a disco and movie night. We hope all our members have a great summer and we hope to see you all back on Monday 10th September 2012 @ 6pm. New members are always welcome and girls can join once they are age 3.
