I’ve been in many
places, but I’ve never been in
Cahoots. Apparently, you can’t go alone.
You have to be in Cahoots with someone. I’ve
also never been in Cognito. I hear no-one recognises
you there. I have, however, been in Sane. They don’t
have an airport; you have to be driven there. I have made
several trips there, thanks to my friends, family and work. I
would like to go to Conclusions, but you have to jump and I’m
not too much on physical activity anymore. I have also been in
Doubt. That is a sad place to go. And I try not to visit there too
often. I’ve been in Flexible, but only when it was very important to
stand. Sometimes I’m in Capable and I go there more often as I’m
getting older. One of my favourite places is in Suspense! It really
gets the adrenalin flowing and pumps up the old heart. At my
age I need all the stimuli I can get! This summer, whether on
vacation or in ‘staycation, may it be a time of rest and
relaxation for all of us. Wherever we go, whatever we do,
remember Jesus said ‘I am with you always.”(Matthew
COMMUNITY LUNCHES
Thank you to everyone who supports the Community Lunches which continue to go from strength to strength.
It’s great to see so many people turn up on a regular basis but it is also heartwarming for the team when we see
some new faces. When we began this venture we were getting between 20-25 people for lunch and numbers have
steadily grown and we are now serving approx. 40 lunches.
At the present time the lunches are on the 4 th Wednesday in the month but as the numbers have grown we hope to
also serve lunches on the 2 nd Wednesday of the month. This will begin in September for a trial period until
Christmas.
From May – August we will be serving Ploughman’s Lunch or Sandwiches still only £2.50.
This year we gave £250 to Sundhar Dokha Church in Nepal and £200 for Church Funds.
Do come along and join us for lunch, it’s for everyone from babes in arms to let’s just say the more mature
persons.
Enjoy the food and the company.
God Bless
Barbara
HELP NEEDED
To keep the Community Lunches going we need more help, could you help us?
We need volunteers to make soup – this would only be a couple of times a year on a rota basis.
It would be wonderful if you could help.
FLOWER GUILD
Last Year’s 40 th Celebrations was the biggest challenge for our group since we started in 1999.
We were very privileged to decorate the church.
This event has been viewed in the NIGFAS Facebook by people all over the world as far away as Japan and America.
We were indebted to our own Church Members who supported us at the Festival and throughout the year without
your generosity we could not have done it, THANK YOU ALL.
Lots of visitors to our church on this occasion have since joined our guild, we now have a regular
attendance of 20 each Month
Anyone who would like to join our group should come along on the first Monday in September.
You can take part or just watch have a cup of tea and a chat and join in our fellowship.
SELECT VESTRY
The Rector a few weeks ago announced in church that he would like to see a report from all the Organisations to appear
in the magazine. I wondered, therefore, if readers would be interested in some of the activities of the Select Vestry in
the past year. If not, please feel free to peruse the rest of this magazine. But even if you have only a cursory interest in
the goings on of the Vestry......read on!
Of course the highlight last year for the Vestry and indeed the whole Parish was the 40 th Anniversary Celebrations. I
wish that I could say that the Vestry could take all the credit for it being a success, but that would not be strictly true. It
did have the foresight though to bring together some of the most talented people in the Parish to organise events which
will be remembered for many years to come. The individuals who made up the committees (and others too numerous to
mention) and who organised the Flower Festival, Services and Mission Week, spent a lot of time and effort to make the
Celebrations a success and the Vestry and the Parish are greatly indebted to them.
Having people who knew what they were doing to organise the 40 th Anniversary Celebrations meant that the Vestry
could get on with more mundane matters. And nothing is more mundane than finance. That is not to say that the Vestry
does not take its financial responsibilities seriously. On the contrary, the Vestry is very aware that every penny that
comes into church funds is generously donated and therefore must be spent wisely. As everyone knows, it is a fact that
costs are rising every year and of course the church is not exempt from this. Last year rising costs in electricity, rates,
water etc. etc. meant that the Vestry had a real struggle at times to pay the bills. It is a tough ask for people who are
already stretched to the limit to review their giving, but are there some who are reading this who could put another
pound a week into their envelope?
Moving off that prickly subject of money the Vestry was greatly heartened by the good work the Youth Organisations
are doing within the church. The B.B., G.B., Youth Club and Club J are all excellent organisations that do marvellous
work. The Vestry supported and will continue to support the vital work the leaders undertake for the benefit of the
young people in our Parish.
Other matters the Vestry dealt with last year were routine repairs and maintenance, the theft of lead from the church roof
and health and safety. As you can see it is not what you would call a barrel of laughs (though we do have our moments),
but it is necessary work nonetheless.
Moving to this year the Vestry has a number of projects ahead. One of them is to consider the possibility of re-arranging
the interior lay-out of the church. At this early stage the Vestry are only looking into the possibilities, but whatever the
outcome, whether the church is moved around, or even if it stays the same, the most important thing of all is to provide a
place of worship which glorifies God and where EVERYONE is made to feel welcome.
CHOIR
NOTES
John Nesbitt
Honorary Secretary to the Select Vestry
Now that Palm Sunday and Easter are well behind us we
have started to practice for Harvest!
On Palm Sunday the choir sang an anthem at the morning
service and as a few of our members were on holiday we
sang a short anthem on Easter Sunday.
On Saturday 16th June the choir will once again be
responsible for the hamper, so everyone have your £1 coins
at the ready and come and support us at our stall.
Our choir practice resumes on the first Thursday in
September which is the 6th. We are always on the look out
for new members so if anyone would like to join us, please
contact our organist Miss Jane McCartney 90848854 or any
member of the choir. We practice on Thursday evenings at
7.30 pm for approximately one hour.
Hope to see you all on the 16th June!!
Things are not always what they seem.
The other morning I was with my elderly mother and much younger sister travelling to the funeral of an elderly relative in
Scotland. We had arrived at Aldergrove in good time for the early morning take-off. I had hired a car for the day. I was the driver
of the car, the organiser of the trip and boy, am I a natural leader! I arrived at the airport full of confidence that I could find my way
around with map or satnav on the other side; I could escort the other two with minimal effort and already had checked in online.
I had persuaded my wife to leave us to the Airport that morning. She was not even mildly annoyed at having to leave a
warm bed to have us there for 5.00 a.m. We were through security and waiting for the gate to be called when on searching my
pockets I found that I had forgotten my Driving Licence. So full of confidence was I that I knew exactly where I had left it. I
thought, this is not a problem. Phone Eileen and get her to come back to the Airport with my Driving Licence, I could even tell her
where I had left it. I rang Eileen`s mobile number. She had forgotten her phone. I rang the phone in the car. It was not turned on.
I rang home, my son is at home. You`ve guessed, no reply, still in bed, out to the world. By this stage I had approached three
Easyjet representatives. They were very pleasant girls full of smiles and apparently quite willing to help, but only to offer advice. If
I got my Driving Licence to the Airport they could not pass it to me, even if they were allowed to, there was no one free to do that. I
would have to leave the secure area of the airport and meet the person with the driving licence, check in again and pass through
security. Yes I should have time to do all this but only if I was quick.
By this time I was really starting to panic. I had been ringing various telephone numbers trying to get anyone to come to
the airport with my driving licence. I was fuming (cursing and swearing probably…but I cannot say that in a church magazine). I
had made an ass of myself and my arrangements and could not even get someone to help me. I was ready to …when the phone was
answered. It was my wife, she had arrived home. No cross word, no rebuke, “where is it, where did you leave it?” I will be there as
quick as I can. (It is a 20 minute drive from my home to the airport, if you are in a hurry).
One problem out of the way, back to my charges to let them know what was happening. I then go to security and explain.
They will let me out but I have to be escorted round the building. 5 then 10 minutes elapse as they find someone and I am escorted
round the building back to a few feet from where I started. Now I am out, I will have to wait for the Licence to arrive. I have a
brainwave, go to check in first and get my new boarding pass. I have to queue again but one of the girls at the Check in Desk remembers
me and smiles as she gives me the new pass.
“Have you got your Licence?” “No but it is coming.”
“You have not got much time, you should go straight to the plane through security, if there is a queue there you may not
make it.”
I go to the car park armed with the boarding pass and lo and behold my Driving Licence has just arrived. I grab it and run
to Security. At the entrance the chap there says he has seen me before and demands an explanation, “You better hurry!” Then into
the queue to be searched, take my coat and belt off. A couple in front are fussing about how to arrange their belongings in the boxes
for the X-Ray scanner. I slip past them and through security “praying” that I will not be singled out for closer inspection. Once
through I run to the gate noticing that the departure screen shows “Boarding – Last Call”. I arrive at the gate and find my two
charges nervously waiting either my arrival or having to board without me. We had no time for explanation or conversation before
being called to board.
Once on board, I grab a window seat in an empty row behind my two charges to calm down and gather my thoughts. A
few moments later we were airborne for the short flight. It had been a dull damp cloudy morning but within a few minutes we were
up and through the clouds into bright sunlight. I peered through the window my mind distracted by the very white clouds that had
looked such a different colour from the ground. They seemed to stretch for ever, the sun was behind the plane and the coloured rays
falling on the white clouds seemed to make no difference. They were whiter than white and appeared to stretch to eternity; at least,
further than I thought was the end of the world. Then suddenly below us I saw another plane like a small toy in the sky. Obviously
it was heading in to Belfast. Probably it has a couple of hundred people on board. I suddenly realized that you could have hundreds,
maybe thousands, of those planes in the space above the clouds.
My forgotten Driving Licence paled into insignificance. Who or what had created all of this was not worried about a tantrum
thrown by a more than middle-aged male who had forgotten something that mattered for only a few moments of his life. Did
God torment me by allowing me to get annoyed by forgetting my Driving Licence or did he use it to show me no matter how small
I was in the world and no matter how insignificant ,things could be put right for me? Yes, things are not always what they seem.
Mossley Parish Women’s Guild
May 9th This years AGM took place at Country Cakes in Antrim and was one of our most enjoyable
nights ever. Chairwoman Pat Flint got business matters quickly under way. She thanked all the members
for their attendance and support throughout the year. A couple of husbands were also mentioned for their
help and support. Our secretary, Anne Robinson gave a comprehensive account of our activities
throughout the past year while our treasurer Christine McCormick supplied a very accurate statement of
accounts - even down to the meagre 2p interest from the bank. I am pleased to report that all officers
and committee members agreed to serve for another year with the addition of Marlene Bow who was
allegedly press ganged into joining the committee. Our host, Lorraine from Country Cakes then gave us
a very entertaining cookery demonstration making two desserts ( Recipes supplied) We all sampled
these with much delight. It was then, however, we all thought we had died and gone to Heaven, when
out came the supper - every wee bun, traybake and cake you could wish for. And all made with real
butter and fresh cream!
Sat. June 9th Bus Run Our outing this year will explore County Down. Some seats are still available so
please contact Pat or Christine asap. We will leave Mossley parish at 9-30am and return at approx 9-
30pm (all depending on the bus driver!) All welcome for what is always a relaxing day out, of retail
therapy and not having to make the dinner.
Our Monthly Meetings will commence on Wednesday 12th September at 8pm.
Please, come and join in with a great night of Fun, Friendship and Fellowship
Club J
End of Year News
The first year of Club J will end on the 20 th May 2012 and what a busy year we have had! The
teams grew from four to six over the year, as the pre-school children joined the Club for the first
time. Lots of other firsts happened as well, with a new format being introduced both within
Club J and during the monthly family services and the children having their first experiences of
Holy Communion. At Christmas a ‘Make and Do stall’ was erected at the fair and of course the
Nativity play was its usual organized chaos!
Central to the changes made this year was the introduction Junior Praise and to opening and
closing prayers at the Club. With help from Louise we also had the start of a praise group and
hope that this will be built on next year. We started the year with 30 children and learnt about
The Good Samaritan, Noah’s Ark and making good choices in life, with the story of the wise
man building his house upon a rock. We created Daniel in the Lions Den and over the year the
lions pride has disappeared from the wall in the hall! After Christmas we continued to include
crafts in the club and made fish as we became ‘fishers of men’, learnt how Jesus walked on
water and why Zacchaeus climbed a tree. Following the Women’s World of Prayer the children
wrote their own prayers and these will be read out at the family service on the 20 th May 2012.
We end the year with 64 children registered and while our average number each week is in the
40’s this is an encouraging start. We rejoice that 8 of our 12 Disciples team were confirmed this
year. Three of the girls have already appeared back at Club J to become leaders which is an
encouraging sign for the future and we welcome them with open arms. I would also like to take
this opportunity to thank all the parents, grandparents, parishioners (and those I have forgotten)
for supporting Club J over the last year.
We hope to see you on the 9th September 2012 to do it all again!
BADMINTON CLUB
We have had another successful year at the badminton club.
Fitness levels have increased for the small band of committed members who attend each week. The craic
is always good and we don’t take it too seriously. With the season coming to an end we decided to hold our
delayed Christmas dinner at the end of March in The Bureau, Whiteabbey. A good night was had by all!! In April
we supported Mallusk Play School at their Annual Table Quiz to
help them to raise much needed funds for a replacement building
and finished a very commendable third without the help of mobiles
and despite the fact that we had eleven and the Rector in our team.
As Kitchener said ‘Your Country Needs You’ ....forget that.....’Your
Badminton Club needs You’
Next season we would be glad to see more new members any
Youth Club
It has come to the end of another
youth club year. This year we
have seen some great changes in
the growth of the club. Our
numbers are up to 25-30 children
each week and it’s great to see
such interest in the youth club.
Our funds are up slightly and next
year we hope to do more. The rest
of the leaders and myself hope to
organise more trips out with the
children, to the cinema, ice
skating, bowling and mini golf.
We have always had a problem
trying to find leaders. Lisa-Marie,
Kathryn, Gavin and myself are
there every week. June, who was
a full time leader has stepped
down but offered to help out once
a month for which I am very
grateful, but we still need more
part-time leaders. Just once a
month would be such a help and
would take the pressure off our
full time leaders. A very big thank
you is due to all who help out with
the youth club.
We all look forward to seeing you
back after the summer holidays in
September. We will start again on
Saturday 8th September 2012
Many thanks to all the children
and their parents for supporting
MOSSLEY PARISH MENS SOCIETY
On the 16 TH April we had a visit from Sandy Smith who gave us a very informative talk on
C.S.Lewis. Since the publication in the 1950s of his internationally recognised and much loved
Chronicles of Narnia, CS Lewis is now one of the most widely known authors who was born in
Belfast. Even among his avid readers there are still many who are not aware of his roots in 19th
and early 20th century Belfast. Mr Smith illustrated his talk with some very early photographs
of both C.S.Lewis and his family and gave us the background to his early years.and the places
which were associated with his life here in Northern Ireland.
Sandy Smith escorts Literary tours around Belfast on a regular basis to all the C S Lewis
sights…these can be booked through the Belfast Welcome Centre.
On the 14 th May 14 members paid a visit to the Flying Angel Centre the home of the Mission to
Seafarers in the port of Belfast. We were welcomed by Rev Colin Hall-Thompson and he took us
on a tour of the port in the centers minibus, visiting all the wharfs,he explained which goods
arrived at which wharf and gave an overview of the workings of the port. We then returned to
the centre and visited the small chapel before having tea/coffee and biscuits, and then to the
conference centre where we had a Q & A session and Colin gave us a potted history of the Mission
to Seamen, now the Mission to Seafarers.
Piracy, shipwreck, abandonment and separation from loved ones are just a few of the problems
merchant seafarers face. Around the world, The Mission to Seafarers provides help and support
to the 1.2 million men and women who face danger every day to keep our global economy afloat.
As a Christian agency, they work in 250 ports caring for seafarers of all ranks, nationalities and
beliefs. Through a global network of chaplains, staff and volunteers they offer practical,
emotional and spiritual support to seafarers through ship visits, drop-in centres and a range of
welfare and emergency support services.
In over 100 ports the Flying Angel centres provide a ‘home away from home’ for seafarers who
may have been at sea for up to two years. Here they can enjoy time away from their ship and use
internet and phone facilities to get in touch with loved ones after months away
In an emergency, the MtS is often the only help on offer. No matter what problem a seafarer is
facing, be it injury, abandonment, non-payment of wages or personal difficulties, they know they
can turn to the local Mission for help, advice and support. Their chaplains and volunteers offer
practical and financial support, advocacy services, family liaison or simply a space to talk in a time
of crisis.
The Mission to Seafarers was founded in 1856 and is entirely funded by voluntary donations
After a very entertaining and informative evening we gave Colin our best wishes for his continuing
good work.
Prayer Group
This little group meets in the Pentecost Room on a
Wednesday evening at 7 pm. We sing a Hymn,
have a Bible Reading and say a few prayers. It is
all very informal. There are now about eight or nine
of us but we don’t always manage to attend every
week. At first I went because I felt that I needed to
pray and wanted to be with others who felt similarly.
I found that I was made most welcome, in spite of
the fact that I was not going to attend at the “bowls”
afterwards. I was allowed to “do my own thing”. On
my first night I was made to feel that it was a matter
for my own conscience as to whether I wanted to
pray in silence or speak out loud. I mention
anyone I want who I feel is in need of prayer,
whether or not they ask me. Any names mentioned
are treated in the strictest of confidence. I do not
even need to say why I am praying for them. I just
have to think about them. We have a list of names
that people have given to us, sometimes they tell us
what they want the prayer for, sometimes they
don`t, but that `s OK. One of our little group comes
every week with a smile on her face; she meets
people and speaks to them. She tells them her
troubles and they tell her theirs. Sometimes she
remembers their names, sometimes she forgets but
that`s OK too. If your feel that you want a prayer
just get in touch with any one of us, leave a note or
come along and join us. If you don`t feel like it you
don`t have to come back, we will still love you
anyway. We want to be there for you and to help
you in any way that we can.
Bric-a-Brac
At the time of writing it had just been approved that there will be a furniture sale on Saturday 23 June. As
you know bric-a-brac runs every Saturday morning throughout the year but this is an opportunity to move some
of the larger items stored in Albert’s shed. My love of bric-a-brac is well documented and I am encouraging
anyone who hasn’t been to pop along and have a look round. You never know what you might find and the
price will be easy on your pocket.
Unlike some of the other organisations bric-a-brac does run throughout the year and this does give us
problems when setting out the merchandise and putting it away. With people on holiday and so on it leaves us
short-handed and it is a relief when we are able to leave it out for the following week. I sympathise that it is not
aesthetically pleasing on the eye and to some it just looks like a pile of junk but it has made significant revenue
for the church. I am hoping Clifford Bell can confirm that it makes around £100 - £150.00 per week not to
mention what Albert manages to sell through newspaper ads. On behalf of the bric-a-brac team I ask for your
patience and recognise that it is not an ideal solution to our storage problem but for now it seems our only
option. I would like to add that we had extra help to put away stock last week thanks to Victor and the Rector.
It really takes no time at all if there are enough people doing it and should only take about a half hour.
When writing the last piece for the Dove magazine I knew I would forget to mention some names who
contribute to the smooth running of our Saturday morning sale. Imagine my horror when I realised I had left out
Ella who makes tea for us all ably supported by Marguerite and Anne – they are kept busy with a steady queue
of customers enjoying a sit down with a cuppa. Lee Whiteside who helps put out on a Friday morning was not
mentioned and I am happy to be able to put that right.
Following last week’s Sunday Service we had a brief meeting and it was suggested that we take this
opportunity to thank the people who have donated items and in some cases whole house clearances over the
last number of years. This is what keeps us going and we could not survive without regular donations. We
would also like to thank our regular parishioners who come faithfully every week to support our efforts. It is not
necessary to buy every time although generally they do. We remain grateful that they pop in for a chat and a
chance to catch up with any news (gossip), the Bennett grandchild for instance was a really nice bit of news
and we wish parents Fiona and Michael all the best for the future.
Look forward to seeing you on Saturday
Guild of Intercessors
It will be further enriching to
our worship at Mossley if some
members of the Congregation lead
the intercessions from time to time.
Initially, this could happen at the morning
communion service on the second Sunday of
each month. If more people are willing to give
it a go we could expand it further. You don’t
need to write the prayers yourself or to make
them up on the spot. I have plenty of books I
could lend anyone who would like to give it a
equipping the church in mission
Hello everyone,
Many thanks to those who purchased the Nepal quiz sheets. A total of £51. 10 was taken from the sale of
these. An additional donation of £10 was made by Pat Flint. The first prize of a £10 M&S voucher was
won by Pat Flint (no fix, I promise) and second prize was won by George Madden and Andrew Paddock,
they received a box of chocolates each.
A few years ago United Mission to Nepal (UNM) needed someone to look after young people with
disabilities who went to Kathmandu for life-changing operations. Sundar Dhoka Saathi Sewa (SDSS)
was able to offer this service. Now all United Mission to Nepal disability referrals to Kathmandu are
handled by SDSS. The reputation for the care received at SDSS is such that it now receives requests
for care from remote villages all over Nepal in addition to those referred by
UMN.This has resulted in an increased number using the facilities offered and the
need to expand. An exciting new phase in the development of SDSS happened
when the ground breaking ceremony for a purpose built facility took place. This
new unit will replace the old carpet factory building that Sundar Dhoka Church
currently rent.
Ground Breaking in Kathmandu.
CMS Ireland and Sundar Dhoka Church are grateful for the continuing support
given by the Church of the Holy Spirit as our Mission Outreach in Nepal. Please
return any CMS Ireland boxes or globes that need emptying to members of the
Dinu Committee or the Church Wardens, thank you.
Bible Study
Having finished with the Book of Daniel, we have now started to study “The Parables. The Greatest Stories Ever Told”
On picking the parables my thoughts on the matter were split. On one hand I thought they would provide some light
relief after our study of the last six chapters of Daniel, and yet with the parables being so well known and having
listened to many a preacher speak on them, I wondered if there could be anything new that we could gain from our
study of them. As usual I was wrong. Just take our study of The Good Samaritan (Luke 10 v 25-37) Of all the main
characters in this story, which role would Jesus want us to be? We are all familiar with the people involved but let’s
move the characters around a bit and put a twist on their part of the story. We are told that a man was going down to Jericho from Jerusalem. If
we take Jerusalem to be the Holy City in which Mankind lives with God, Jericho is a city whose bright city lights lure Mankind from his home with
God the Father. It is a downward path he travels. This road is full of dangers and Mankind falls victim to the sins of the world. Bruised and
battered and unable to help himself he lies on the roadside. The Priest and the Levite who walk by, and their failure to help, illustrate the inability
of all the laws and rules to save Fallen Mankind when he stumbles and falls. Jesus is the Good Samaritan whose love draws him to the side of the
Fallen Man. He pours oil and wine on his wounds. The oil represents the Holy Spirit and the wine is the cleansing blood of Christ. The Samaritan
carried the man to the inn and pays the Innkeeper to look after the wounded man. Jesus carried Fallen Man to his church to be cared for. The two
silver coins represent the price he paid so that Fallen Man could be made whole again. On his departure next morning, the same words that the
Samaritan spoke to the Inn Keeper, Jesus speaks to us, his church “Take care of him and when I return again I will pay you whatever else you
spend on him. We, the Inn Keepers of Christ’s Church are charged, in his absence, to look after Fallen Mankind until his promised return and with
his promise of an even greater reward for those who have been faithful in doing his work. Old the parables may be but there are still new lessons
we can learn from them.
At the close of our meeting on the 24th April 2012 we congratulated Bob Lee on his election to the office of People’s Churchwarden. We wished
him well in carrying out the duties of this office in the year ahead and hope that he will find it rewarding.
TANSEN UPDATE
For sometime now there has been some misunderstanding about Tansen Mission Hospital. What is it’s present situation and what
are it’s plans for the future? I hope that the following article from the January 2012 edition of “Friends of Tansen” magazine will
help to bring us up to date
Dear Friends many of you know that for several years UMN ,wanting to involve local Nepali ownership and governance, has been
seeking a robust, sustainable, and appropriate framework for the two UMN hospitals (Tansen and Okhaldunga). After a year of no
response to our proposals, the Ministry of Health sent a team to Tansen to determine the thoughts of local stakeholders. Although, as
yet, we have not received any official word from the Ministry, we understand that they are going to ask UMN to continue, for five years,
to run the two hospitals and to agree on a modality for the future. The UMN Board has agreed, in principle, with these anticipated
proposals. A new modality for the hospitals will be beneficial for Tansen, as the previous agreement is several years out-of-date.
Tansen Hospital will be developing a long term Strategic Plan - determining how best to serve Nepalis over the next five years. Please
pray for all those involved in this process. We want to hear from God and use our gifts to work hard on these plans. The agreement
with the government will follow on from that. David McConkey. Hospitals’ Executive Committee Chairman
There is no doubting the fact that there are some problems with UMN’s wishes that Tansen Mission Hospital should be given over
to local Nepali ownership. Nevertheless, UMN is upbeat in working toward this objective. Now more than ever our mission
partners need the support of all their friends and we in Mossley must be there for them. Please remember that our mission link
is with the hospital direct. It is not through a third party. The fact that other bodies no longer have ties with Tansen is not our
concern. For 24 years our mission link with Tansen has proved fruitful for both them and us. I am sure and certain that by
maintaining this link, there will be many more rich rewards to be gained as we travel the future together. We must be there for
them when they take it upon themselves to “Serve the people of Nepal in the name of Jesus Christ”
THE GREATNESS OF GOD
I was viewing on an eventide the starry skies abroad, With their myriad worlds beyond my ken to know, And reflecting on the vastness all
creation’s works afford, Filled with wonder at the God who made them so.
I retired that night as usual, but before I fell asleep, Low I bowed my head and heart before Him there, At the awe-inspiring marvel that the
One whose skill doth keep, All those words should stoop to hearken to my prayer.
But a greater wonder held me, for the Spirit’s help was near, And I lingered on the thought quite unafraid - That this God, so great, so
glorious did in infant’s form appear in the world that His almighty power had made;
That His creatures did not know Him as He came within their view, That He trod in lonely, patient, humble ways, As in manhood’s form was
subject, came His Father’s will to do, And, rejected here - retired to give Him praise!
That it pleased His God to bruise Him; in obedient love He died, When His soul was made an offering for sin; Though He’ll see the fruits of
travail and His soul be satisfied, As rejoicingly His sheaves He gathers in.
Here I saw the great unfoldings of God’s wondrous thoughts for man, Thoughts He’d treasured in the counsel of His will; Hidden in Himself
were purposed e’er creation’s work began. Sons like Christ a blissful universe should fill.
All creation yet shall marvel in the day of His display - Not by looking at the starry skies above - At the unexpected grandeur, and the skill of
wisdom’s way, When both heav’n and earth are captured by His love
