Describe how your leadership and service has made a positive difference in your school, in your community, in your family and/or on the job, and how it will continue to make a difference in college and beyond. 2011 NC Strawberry Association Scholarship- The NC Strawberry Association is offering a 2011 NC Strawberry Association Scholarship. The scholarship is open to high school seniors or current college students applying, accepted to, or currently enrolled in a land grant university who are interested in or having declared a major in a program of study directly related to the strawberry industry (e.g. small fruit production, marketing, food science, nutrition, entomology, agronomy, etc). The Scholarship Award for 2011 is $500. The number of scholarships awarded will be based on funds available and applications received. The deadline to apply is May 1. A Few Good Men Scholarship- A Few Good Men, Inc. is offering (2) $500.00 scholarships to high school seniors. If you are interested in pursuing this scholarship opportunity, please visit www.afewgoodmennc.org. The deadline to apply is April 15, 2011. Union County/Monroe N.C. Friends of NRA Committee- Scholarship Attention Seniors, the NRA will be offering (1) $500.00 scholarship to students of UCPS. Please visit their website at www.unioncountyfnra.org to apply. The deadline to submit your application is April 23th. Siler Presbyterian Scholarship- Siler Presbyterian Men of the Church is offering scholarships for young people that are interested in attending a technical school, community college or a junior college. If you are interested in pursuing this scholarship, please see Mrs. Daniels for an application. The deadline to apply is May 20 th . Weddington Optimist Club - The Weddington Optimist Club is pleased to announce that it is starting the selection process for the computer giveaway scholarship program. A Cuthbertson High School senior will be awarded this scholarship which includes a laptop computer with Microsoft student office software valued at over eight hundred dollars. To apply for this scholarship you must complete a cover page and write an essay (details listed below). The due date for the essay is noon April 19, 2011. Scholarship recipients will be notified by May 5, 2011. Scholarship recipients must attend the Weddington Optimist Club meeting at the Weddington Optimist Park on Thursday May 26 th at 7pm.The essay should be typed (single space) with a maximum of 2 pages. A hand written essay will be acceptable if there is no access to a home or school computer/printer. Please return your completed essay to “CONTACT NAME” in guidance by the due date. The following information should be on the cover page: • Name, high school, home address, e-mail, home phone, intended college and major. • High school awards, honors, extra-curricular activities, community service and employment. Essay Question Why are you deserving of this computer scholarship award and will this award financially make a difference in your ability to attend college? 10
Delta Kappa Gamma Each year the Alpha Zeta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma International Society for Key Women Educators gives a one thousand dollar grant-in-aid award to a deserving student in Mecklenburg or Union Counties. This deserving student should have a sincere desire and commitment to enter the teaching profession. The ideal candidate is one who excels academically, is involved in community and school activities. The application and requested information is due by Friday, April 22 nd . Please stop by the Guidance Office to pick up your application. Cuthbertson High School PTSO The Cuthbertson High School PTSO is proud to offer each academic year two $500 scholarships to seniors pursuing full time higher education after graduating from Cuthbertson High School. The scholarships may be revised (in quantity and amount) based on the fundraising results for the academic year. The Scholarship Committee is comprised of members representing the PTSO board, teachers and parents. Members may not have children who are seniors at CHS or teach classes with a significant representation of seniors. The decision of the committee is final and will be announced at Awards Day in May. Eligibility Requirements: - Applicant must be a senior at Cuthbertson High School graduating in June of the current academic year. - Minimum weighted GPA of 3.0. - Student or student’s parent/guardian must be a paid member of the CHS PTSO as of April 1 in the current academic year. Verify status by contacting the membership chair: Fran Faraci myliljulie@aol.com - The recipient must provide evidence that the student will attend a post-secondary accredited educational institution on a full time basis after graduation. (For example: acceptance letter) - A parent or guardian of each recipient shall be required to guarantee the return of any CHS PTSO Scholarship money received if the recipient does not attend a post-secondaryaccredited educational institution during the academic year that begins in the fall immediately following his or her CHS graduation. Application Directions: - Complete the attached application in its entirety. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Questions should be directed to: British Hyrams bhyrams@gmail.com - Application (and other materals) are due in Mrs. Hodge’s mailbox by 3p.m. April 15, 2011. Late applications will not be accepted. - Official CHS transcript must be submitted with the application in a sealed envelope from guidance. - Two teacher recommendations must be submitted with the application. Each recommendation must be in a sealed envelope with the teacher’s signature over the flap. - Essay questions can be attached on a separate piece of paper. Students can pick up an application in the Guidance Office The Charlotte Observer will honor top high school seniors with the All-Star Scholars Program. These students will be featured prominently in stories and photos in the Observer in May. One scholar form each school will compete within the student’s region for a $1,000 Senior of the Year Award. Judges will consider written statements by the Senior of the Year nominees and will interview finalists for the $1, 000 award.
