Congratulations to these students on all of their hard work. • 2011-2012 Principal’s Advisory Council Principal’s Advisory Council (PAC) Named – 62 students applied for 18 positions on next year’s PAC. Former members were ineligible to apply this year to give more students an opportunity to serve in this role. Applications were reviewed and scored by faculty members. All applicants are to be commended for their strong essays. A special thank you is extended to the faculty who volunteered their time to aid in this process. • Proctors Needed CHS will administer EOC exams June 7-10. Exams begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at approximately noon. In order to administer these exams we are in need of proctors. If you are available to volunteer your time, please contact Elenia Daniels in the Guidance Department. A proctor's training session will be offered Thursday, June 2, 3:00- 3:30 pm in the Media Center. If you are unable to attend this training session, a make-up session will be held on Friday, June 3, from 7:00-7:45 a.m. in the Guidance Suite. Please remember that proctor's training is mandatory and required for every North Carolina Testing Program. • Attendance Waiver and Recovery Any student who has 8 or more absences in any class must go through the waiver/recovery process. • Per UCPS policy: • “Credit will not be granted for classes when absences for a student reach eight days for a semester long course and 15 days for a year long course.” • “Written documentation for an absence must be presented within three school days after the student returns to school; otherwise, the absence(s) will be recorded as unlawful.” • Students must be academically passing a class in order to go through the waiver and recovery process. • A student may be allowed to recover up to 8 class absences, with a maximum number of 3 recovered absences per class. • All waivers will be evaluated by the attendance committee. During the week of 5/16, any student who submitted a waiver will need to meet with Mrs. Rutowski (Attendance Counselor) to learn how much recovery time they will need to serve. • Recovery sessions will be offered in the media center during the following times: Tuesday, May 31 – Friday, June 3, daily sessions from 7:25am – 7:55am and 3:00pm – 4:00pm • ALL RECOVERY MUST BE COMPLETED BY FRIDAY, JUNE 3! Students may see Mrs. Rutowski for their attendance information any day BEFORE OR AFTER SCHOOL OR DURING LUNCH, or email michelle.rutowski@ucps.k12.nc.us. Waiver and recovery is the STUDENT’S responsibility – make sure you take care of it! • Sport Updates Free Physicals - Cuthbertson HS Information Saturday, June 4 is the date for FREE athletic physicals provided by Presbyterian Hospital as a part of their partnership with UCPS. The physicals are at Sun Valley HS and the assigned time period for CHS will begin at 12:30 pm. Athletes should arrive approximately 30 minutes early. Coaches will be on hand to assist with the process. We hope you will take advantage of this FREE physical as you prepare for the 2011-2012 school year! • Second Semester Review and Exam Schedule Exam Information Second semester exams begin on Tuesday, June 7 and end on Friday, January 10. Scores on these exams count 25% of the final semester grade. With the exception of mandated End-of-Course (EOC) and IMS tests, a student may be exempt from a semester exam in a class if a student meets the following criteria: “A” average and no more than three (3) absences “B” average and no more than two (2) absences (Seniors Only) “C” average and no more than one (1) absence (Seniors Only) 5
