For safety reasons: be sure to pack<br />

your baggage correctly<br />

For Zurich Airport as well as for all airlines, security on<br />

the ground <strong>and</strong> in the air is of the highest priority. Security<br />

st<strong>and</strong>ards are based on the relevant international<br />

regulations.<br />

Please make sure your baggage does not contain any prohibited<br />

items. The regulations published by the Federal <strong>Off</strong>ice of Civil<br />

Aviation www.bazl.admin.ch apply to both hold baggage <strong>and</strong><br />

h<strong>and</strong> baggage. Please contact the relevant airline if you have<br />

any queries.<br />

H<strong>and</strong> baggage must not contain any items that could be used<br />

as weapons <strong>and</strong> are included in the relevant Federal <strong>Off</strong>ice of<br />

Civil Aviation list. Baggage must not contain any combustibles<br />

or products that generate fumes. Devices that generate heat<br />

(e.g. diver’s lamps) are only permitted in h<strong>and</strong> baggage, <strong>and</strong><br />

must be disconnected from their power source (e.g. batteries).<br />

Explosive <strong>and</strong> highly flammable substances<br />

Any substances that represent an explosion risk (e.g. gases,<br />

liquid <strong>and</strong> solid flammable substances, reactive materials <strong>and</strong><br />

oxidising agents, peroxides, corrosive substances, highly flammable<br />

liquids such as paraffin, lamp oil, lighter fuel, petrol, fuel<br />

paste, etc.) are prohibited in both hold <strong>and</strong> h<strong>and</strong> baggage.<br />

Chemicals <strong>and</strong> poisonous substances<br />

Any substances that may cause fire, corrosion or the generation<br />

of poisonous gases are prohibited in both hold <strong>and</strong> h<strong>and</strong><br />

baggage. These include paints, varnishes, acids, alkalis, chemical-based<br />

household products, poisonous substances <strong>and</strong><br />

poten tially infectious substances, radioactive materials, pepper<br />

sprays <strong>and</strong> other sprays that could be used for self-defence, etc.<br />

Firearms/ammunition<br />

Firearms <strong>and</strong> imitation firearms are not permitted in h<strong>and</strong> baggage,<br />

but can be carried as hold baggage provided this complies<br />

with Swiss regulations, the regulations applicable in the destination<br />

country <strong>and</strong> the regulations of the airline concerned.<br />

Sharp implements<br />

Objects that could be used as weapons (e.g. knives, penknives,<br />

scissors, nail files <strong>and</strong> knitting needles) are not permitted in<br />

h<strong>and</strong> baggage, but can be carried as hold baggage provided this<br />

complies with Swiss regulations <strong>and</strong> the regulations applicable<br />

in the destination country.<br />

Blunt instruments<br />

Any objects that could be used to cause injury (such as sports<br />

equipment, baseball <strong>and</strong> cricket bats, etc.), or blunt tools such<br />

as hammers, chisels or screwdrivers must be transported as<br />

hold baggage. These objects must be packed in such a way that<br />

they cannot cause any damage or injure anyone during transit.<br />
