Why We’re Unique
We focus on prevention.
Students come to Glenwood between the
ages of 7 and 12, before serious problems
interfere with their child development.
Unlike other child welfare programs, our
goal is to help our students achieve
academic and developmental progress
before returning them home when their
family is ready for independence.
We partner with parents.
At Glenwood, we work closely with parents
and guardians who are struggling to care
and provide for their children by
complementing their strengths, skills and
resources. Glenwood helps the whole
family by providing services for both boys
and girls, while partnering with the parents
to achieve a stable and positive
environment allowing the children to
return home every weekend.
We are cost-effective.
Glenwood must raise only $15,000 per
year to provide life-changing programs for
one child, which is significantly less than
residential treatment centers or foster care
programs that cost nearly $100,000 a year.
We have a legacy of success.
Since 1887, Glenwood has helped more
than 18,000 at-risk children in Chicago
accomplish their goals and dreams.

dependable workers and responsible
members of their communities.

Parents and guardians undergoing hardship
have the chance to get back on their feet
while their children are at Glenwood.
Typically, within two to three years, parents
have created a positive, healthy and stable
environment that allows their children to
return home.

On a larger level, Glenwood has filled
thousands of children and their families
with hope and promise, allowing them to
rise above generational poverty, drugs
and violence.
