The Treaty of Seville was a landmark in the history of
diplomacy. It marked the breakdown of the Austro-
Spanish Alliance and the beginning of the collapse of the
Franco-British. It secured for Britain commercial
priviledges in the New World.

Edward Savage, 1761-1817, was a native of Princetown
Massachusettes. His early career was as a Goldsmith.
He later took up painting portraits, many of which he
made engravings. This well known portrait shows George
Washington as President, his wife, children and black
servant at Mount Vernon. Mrs. Washington points to the
position of their estate, Mount Vernon, on a map.
