Dr. BERGMrAN. But I am active <strong>in</strong> communal afftails, rpligious afffairs,
what is known as communal affairs.
Senator Moss. Are you familiar with a Swiss bank <strong>in</strong> Geneva, the
Swiss Bank UTO?
Dr. BEGRMAN'. Swiss Israel Bank?
Senator Moss. Yes.
Dr. BIGEmAN. I don't know a th<strong>in</strong>g about it.
Senator Moss. I)o you own land <strong>in</strong> Canada?
Mrl. ILEWIN. Could we have that name straight?
Senator Moss. Swiss Israel Bank.
Dr. BERCMAN. I th<strong>in</strong>k I have seen the name <strong>in</strong> newspapers, but,
frankly, I don't know.
Senator Moss. Do you have a Swiss bank account?
Dr. B1ERGMAN. No. I should say, Ml. Senator, some years ago, a few
years ago, there was a gentleman who belongs to the same organization
with us, withI me, they had an office here, it was a number of years ago,
1 don't recall when, 3 or 4 years ago, one of my companies received a
loan of a couple of hundred thousand dollars, which was after this was
discont<strong>in</strong>ued, because their <strong>in</strong>terest was much higher than we paid
here, but absolutely no <strong>in</strong>terest <strong>in</strong> this bank or any other bank.
Senator Moss. But a loan from Swiss?
Dr. BERGMAIN. From them at that time, to one of our corporations.
Senator Moss. I)o you know Mr. Joseph Pullman of Toronto?
DlI. BERG-MAN. I never heard the name, Mr. Senator.
Senator Moss. And no bus<strong>in</strong>ess deal<strong>in</strong>gs with him?
Dr. BERGMANA. No bus<strong>in</strong>ess dealilns at all.
Senator Moss. How about the CNA Investment Corp.?
Dr. BERGMrAN-. I never heard the name of this corporation before.
Senator Moss. I)o you know Meyer Lansky?
DI. B 3 ERG-MAN. Mr. Senator, the only source, the first time I heard
that name, when I was <strong>in</strong> Israel and there was a legal struggle to give
citizenship or not.
That is the first time I heard the name Lansky. I say this under
oath.
Senator Moss. You just know him by reputation?
Dr. BIERGAAN. That is correct, and the first time I heard about it was
when I was visit<strong>in</strong>g Israel, and I read about it <strong>in</strong> the paper.
Senator Moss. How about Mr. Joseph Kosow?
Dr. BERGNANT. I never heard the name, Mr. Senator. I never heard
the name before. except I should say my attorney asked if I heard
that name. I never heard that name before.
Ml. L].wix. Mr. Chairman, aga<strong>in</strong>, for the record, I just would like
to hand <strong>in</strong> for the committee's record, a few exhibits. One is a letter
from Mr. Kosow's attorney written for the Noew York Times, flatly
stat<strong>in</strong>g that Mr. Kosow had never heard of Mr. Bergman, never met
Mr. Bergman. had never anyth<strong>in</strong>g to do with Mr. Bergman, and the
New York Times ignored that letter.*
I contacted his attorney <strong>in</strong> Boston, and he gratuitously sent me this
letter that he had sent to the New York Times.
