some of the records, but we will give most of the records requested by
the committee.
May I just make a short statement, as I was comply<strong>in</strong>g with the
subpena <strong>in</strong> submitt<strong>in</strong>g the records, I heard part of Senator Moss'
statement, and I th<strong>in</strong>k it would be most important for this committee
to really review the work of all of the nurs<strong>in</strong>g homes <strong>in</strong> the city of
New York, and I was very glad to hear <strong>in</strong> the Senator's statement,
that many nurs<strong>in</strong>g home operators operate excellent <strong>in</strong>stitutions, and
s<strong>in</strong>ce I was reta<strong>in</strong>ed by these nurs<strong>in</strong>g homes, I visited three already,
and all of them have excellent reputations, and I th<strong>in</strong>k it is important
for the community and the city of New York to know how many of
the <strong>in</strong>stitutions are be<strong>in</strong>g operated.
For example, <strong>in</strong> the New York Time8, last week there was pr<strong>in</strong>ted
a list of 92 nurs<strong>in</strong>g homes which were alleged to have had deficiencies.
Now, these deficiencies cover a multitude of th<strong>in</strong>gs, whether or not
a chef attended a special course given by the department for renewed
service tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g course.
This is considered a deficiency, and the two homes I represent,
namely the American Nurs<strong>in</strong>g Home and the Caton Park Nurs<strong>in</strong>g
Home, which is mentioned on this deficiency list however, they happened
to be removed over the weekend by the State department of
health, and I th<strong>in</strong>k it is important for this committee, <strong>in</strong> any publicity
given out, to recognize that there are many <strong>in</strong>stitutions which are
operat<strong>in</strong>g here <strong>in</strong> the city of New York, and the metropolitan area,
which are excellent <strong>in</strong>stitutions, which can provide a service to the
community, and I also po<strong>in</strong>t out, and this is of <strong>in</strong>terest to the committee,
that even State <strong>in</strong>stitutions <strong>in</strong> the State of New York are
send<strong>in</strong>g some of their patients to these nurs<strong>in</strong>g homes, because the
State <strong>in</strong>stitutions are unable to keep the patients there.

Mr. SPIRO. In accordance with our conversation, we have produced
all of the records which are available. All other records will be made
available to the committee as fast as we can, but certa<strong>in</strong>ly by no later
than February 4.

Riviera Furniture Co., and the Towers Nurs<strong>in</strong>g Home.
Mr. KALICK. With respect to the three homes we represent, we believe
we have complied with the subpenas.
