representing eight genera <strong>of</strong> Cyrtandroideae. Studies <strong>of</strong> Cyrtandroideae, however,<br />

revealed the presence <strong>of</strong> anthochlors ( chalcones and aurones), a class <strong>of</strong> pigments<br />

not detected in Gesnerioideae. Continuing his survey, Harborne (1967a) reported 3deoxyanthocyanins<br />

in a further 11 species from seven additional genera, and anthochlors<br />

in six more species <strong>of</strong> Cyrtandroideae. Among the anthochlors identifi ed<br />

were chalcononaringenin [387] representing the chalcones, and cernuoside [388]<br />

representing the aurones.
