EMORY LATIN AMERICAN CULTURAL STUDIES IN BUENOS AIRES,<br />

Learn about modern Latin American urban cultures in Buenos Aires, one of the<br />

most cosmopolitan and diverse centers in South America. The program provides a<br />

comprehensive interdisciplinary focus on Latin America and Argentinean contemporary<br />

literature, music, visual arts, and politics. Two semesters of Spanish language required.<br />

This program will introduce students to the multilayered history of the great city of<br />

Istanbul and the emergent role of modern Turkey as an economic and political powerhouse.<br />

Turkey stands at a geographical and historical crossroads. As a majority Muslim nation,<br />

a prospective member of the European Union, a lively modern democracy, and the fastest-<br />

growing economy in Europe and Western Asia, it is increasingly recognized as an important<br />

player in Balkan, Mediterranean, European, Middle Eastern, and world politics.<br />

EMORY NEUROSCIENCE AND BEHAVIORAL BIOLOGY IN PARIS, FRANCE<br />

May 28–June 30, <strong>2012</strong><br />

Students connect the history of French neurology with contemporary research in Paris.<br />

Students will couple in class discussions with a variety of extracurricular outings to<br />

locations that illustrate France’s role in neurology such as the Hôpital de la Salpêtrière<br />

and its current research interests in institutions such as Institute Curie and or La Cité<br />

des Sciences. In addition, students will have access to the food, culture, and art of<br />

Paris including visits to Giverny and Paris museums. Please note: no French language<br />

proficiency is required.<br />

EMORY PSYCHOLOGY IN THE UK (SCOTLAND OR IRELAND AND GREAT<br />

BRITAIN)<br />

June 8–July 13, <strong>2012</strong><br />

The Department of Psychology offers a five-week program in Ireland and Great Britain<br />

involving cross-cultural research in the area of child development. Students learn firsthand<br />

about the Scottish and Irish educational systems as they spend two weeks observing<br />

and interacting with school children in an elementary school classroom and playground<br />

setting in either Dundee in southeastern Scotland or Galway, on the west coast of<br />

Ireland. For the remaining three weeks of the program, students are in residence in the<br />

Department of Psychology at <strong>University</strong> <strong>College</strong> London.<br />
