<strong>Summer</strong> Study Abroad<br />

In <strong>2012</strong> the <strong>Emory</strong> <strong>Summer</strong> Study Abroad Program enters its forty second year of offering<br />

overseas undergraduate summer study courses. The goal of these programs is to provide<br />

a curriculum of outstanding academic quality for students who wish to study a foreign<br />

society, culture, or language.<br />

Eligibility<br />

Undergraduate students must have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average and<br />

be in good academic standing at their accredited college or university. Some programs<br />

have a prerequisite of a higher than 2.0 grade point average. Applicants must be at least<br />

eighteen years of age, have completed one full year of college, and be currently enrolled in<br />

a university or college.<br />

Application<br />

The online application form can be found on the CIPA website, www.cipa.emory.edu. All<br />

applicants must submit to CIPA an <strong>Emory</strong> <strong>Summer</strong> Study Abroad Application and a $350<br />

nonrefundable deposit. Applications will be accepted starting December 15, 2011. The<br />

deadline for receipt of applications is March 1. Some programs have a first review deadline<br />

of February 1, <strong>2012</strong>. CIPA encourages students to submit their applications as early as<br />

possible because some programs fill up by the end of January.<br />

Programs<br />

ARABIC LANGUAGE AND NORTH AFRICAN STUDIES IN IFRANE, MOROCCO<br />

May 31–July 30, <strong>2012</strong> (Arabic Language Track)<br />

May 31–July 19, <strong>2012</strong> (North African Studies Track)<br />

Students hone Arabic language skills or study Islamic civilization, the political and<br />

economic history of Moroccan society, or North African literature at Al Akhawayn<br />

(The Two Brothers) <strong>University</strong> in the mountain resort town of Ifrane. Guided weekend<br />

trips include the Tafilalt Oasis in southern Morocco and the imperial city of Marrakech.<br />

Academic Fee: $8,085<br />

ART HISTORY IN ROME, ITALY<br />

May 17-June 7, <strong>2012</strong><br />

Participate in this exciting program and explore Rome’s extraordinary transformation<br />

from a modest hilltop settlement into the artistic and political capital of the<br />

Mediterranean world. Students will examine major monuments including the Roman<br />

Forum, Colosseum, the Pantheon, Imperial Fora, Markets of Trajan, the Palatine, the<br />

Mausolea of Augustus and Hadrian, the Vatican, Piazza Navona, and the Villa Borghese.<br />
