Course Descriptions<br />

Course offerings for summer <strong>2012</strong> are grouped by division or department. The<br />

section number of a course is the key to the session: section numbers ending with<br />

the letter “A” are first-session courses; section numbers ending with the letter<br />

“B” are courses that last the entire summer; section numbers ending with the let-<br />

ter “C” are second-session courses; sections ending with “F” are workshops or<br />

study abroad programs offered at various times throughout the summer semes-<br />

ter; “P” indicates special permission required; “May” Maymester courses.<br />

00A – First session May 21 – June 29<br />

00B–Entire summer May 21–August 10<br />

00C–Second session July 2–August 10<br />

00F–Miscellaneous Varies—see specific course<br />

SAF–Study Abroad<br />

MAY–Maymester May 15–June 1, <strong>2012</strong><br />

Courses at the 100 and 200 levels are intended for first-year students and<br />

sophomores; 300- and 400-level courses are primarily for juniors and seniors.<br />

Within specified restrictions, courses in this latter group may be acceptable for<br />

graduate credit. Courses at the 500 level are primarily for graduate students;<br />

700-level courses are for advanced graduate students.<br />

Please note: <strong>Summer</strong> courses that do not have sufficient enrollment by the begin-<br />

ning of classes may be cancelled. Students enrolled in a cancelled class will have<br />

the option, before the end of the drop/add period, of enrolling in another course<br />

that is open, seeking permission to overload in a course that is closed, or cancel-<br />

ling their summer registration and receiving a full tuition refund.<br />
