The Old Testament recollection celebrated the giving of the Law to Moses on tablets of stone. The New Testament recollection of) human hearts (Ezekiel 36:26-27). That’s precisely why NT Pentecost is so significant to the Church of the Nazarene and to our distinctive doctrine of Entire Sanctification. Like Pentecost, Entire Sanctification is the terminology we use to describe the infilling of the Holy Spirit in the life of fully surrendered believers. This “infilling” has a dual purpose that cleanses our hearts more fully inwardly, and compels us to love God and others more fully outwardly. Not just a cleansing, but a compelling. Not just purity, but power. Not just wholesomeness, but a bold witness. Those who overemphasize the inward work of the Spirit sometimes tend to detach themselves from the world we were intended to reach. Those who overemphasize the outward work of the Spirit sometimes tend to detach themselves from the inward power we need to be effective in serving God and others. Writing about our historic tendency as Nazarenes to overemphasize the inward work of the Spirit, Dr. Dan Boone (President of Trevecca Nazarene University) notes, “As we embraced God’s call to holiness, we sometimes failed. Our story as Nazarenes includes times when we were more concerned with how we ‘looked’ to the world than with ‘seeing’ the world as God sees it. We often have interpreted God’s law as a narrow, individualistic guide to sainthood when it was meant to create a new community. We sometimes thought of sanctification as a private experience when God meant to sanctify us into a Spirit-shaped community. We sometimes made this second moment of grace, the goal of our experience rather than the gate to wholehearted service to God and others” (Holiness 101, Our Story Tells Us Who We Are, page 28). As we reflect on the profound change that Pentecost had on the Church in Acts, it’s an ideal time for us to pray, “Do it again, Lord!” It’s a wonderful time to pray earnestly for a fresh infilling, an up-to-date cleansing, and a brand new compelling boldness to reach the world for whom Christ died. Its that time of year again! Another school year ending, Proms, vacations, family outings,
and yup you guessed it TEEN CAMP!!!! What better way to spend a week of summer
vacation, then a week of hangin out with all the friends from the district at Mt. Hope? Early
mornings at the flag pole, activities in the field, great messages and worship in the tabernacle,
and to top it off, an evening of Mt Hope Idol, or a game of Angels & demons.
The campground has never looked better, and Mr. & Mrs. Pocai, together with your
camp board, are working to make it even better. We are currently working on designing,
and installing an obstacle course, as well as a official 9 hole Frisbee golf course. Mr. Poccai,
and his team, have finished the men's bath house, and currently finishing the remodel of
the women's bath house. When you get a chance check it out they look great!!
Great things are happening, but we need your help. We have the manpower, but we are
short on the funds we need to do everything we want to improve the appearance, and appeal
of the campground. This is where you come in. Could you spare a few bucks a month,
maybe a one time gift, to benefit the campground. Just send it to the District Office and
mark it Mt Hope Campground. I promise we will squeeze everything we can out of your
gift. Help us to make Mt Hope even better than it is. Lets keep Mt Hope a great place, for
our children and teens, to come and get away from the world, experience JESUS, with
