Margaret Clendaniel (born 1810, d/o Samplus Clendaniel and his wife, Catherine- died
before 1860). Margaret is a sister of George D. Yoders' [M23] 2nd wife, Mary
Clendaniel. At the time of the 1850 Census, Joseph’s household included Margaret’s
parents, Samplus and Catherine Clendaniel. m.(2) circa 1850 to Amelia Roseberry
(born 20 May 1815 in Greene County, PA; daughter of Elijah Roseberry and his wife,
Elizabeth Swan; interred in Hewitt Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Rices Landing
Borough (Jefferson Township) Greene County). First two children probably born in
Greene Township, Greene County, PA, last three in Jefferson Township, Greene County.
Joseph died before 1880.

29 May 1949 in PA to Miss Phoebe Baldwin; she died 12 May 1851, having no issue.
All children born in Danville Township, Des Moines County, IA. Andrew was a
shoemaker, farmer, and in 1880 he was postmaster at Tilton, IA, president of the board
of school directors and road supervisor. Mary died 13 April 1902, aged 70 years, in
Deep River Township, Powshieck County; both interred at Deep River Cemetery,

After Orpha’s death, David m.(2) 21 February 1893, Mrs. Lucinda Verinda
“Louisa” Onstott (nee Wells), widow of John James Onstott (born circa 1845 in Clay

aged approximately 47 years, in St. Joseph, Buchanan County, MO). Lucinda was born
circa 1849 in Greene County, IL, d/o Phillip and Sarah Wells. By her 1 st marriage
Lucinda had two children, Clinton Onstott, born circa 1881, and Dora Onstott born 14
February 1884.
On the morning of 11 December 1894, David went berserk at his home near
Ridgeway and killed, with a large kitchen knife, in sequence, his infant son Albert, his
wife Lucinda (“Louisa”), his small son Caleb, and then took his own life. Also, he
severely cut the neck of his daughter Ina, and slightly cut the neck of his step-son
Clinton Onstott; both recovered. This was one of the most horrible tragedies in

Isaac and Solomon Hoge contracted to construct the Rogersville Methodist Protestant
Church in 1874. Solomon is Isaac’s brother-in-law, having m. Emeline Yoders, M292.
Later, Isaac was in the sewing machine business in Waynesburg. Isaac died 23 March
1880, aged 29 years, in Waynesburg; interred in Green Mount Cemetery, Waynesburg;
Will #3122 recorded in Greene County Will Book 5, page 218; names brother-in-law
Nace GANIER as co-executor; names “my beloved wife, Emma”; filed for probate 25
March 1880. 1880 US Census, Center Township, Greene County: “312 -312 KENT,
Malissy 59 keeping house, cannot write; YODERS, Emma 23 dau., widow; Charles 3
grandson; all persons and parents born in PA.”
Following her divorce, Lydia Rebecca Rush then m.(2) Thomas Jefferson STAGGERS
(born 5 July 1843, s/o Henry and Sarah Staggers - died 16 March 1889, aged 45 years,
8 months, 11 days); Thomas and Lydia Rebecca interred in Staggers Cemetery,
Jackson Township, Greene County. Thomas and Lydia had two children: Alice E., born

aged 27 years, 7 months, 11 days, in Waynesburg). Caroline was a member of Pursley
Baptist Church in which her father was a deacon for about 50 years, located south of
Oak Forest in Wayne Township, Greene County; she is interred in this church’s
cemetery. At the time of the 1880 Census, this household included Elizabeth Hoge,
Caroline’s sister, born circa 1846. m.(2) 9 September 1882 by R. C. Litton to Sarah M.
Cree (born 4 November 1865, d/o William J. Cree and his wife, Martha Phillips - died 28
March 1950, aged 84 years; interred at Muddy Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church
(now Cornerstone Covenant Bible Church) Cemetery, Jefferson Township, Greene
County, PA). Sarah was a dressmaker. Sarah resided in Khedive, Cumberland
Township, Greene County, PA, December 1892 to March 1950. Children probably all
born in Greene County. James died 13 January 1887; interred at Green Mount
Cemetery, Section 3, Waynesburg, Franklin Township, Greene County, PA.
The paternity of the last two (2) children is questionable; they cannot be the
