and was earnest in his endeavor to succeed in life. He received<br />

license as assistant druggist at the age of twenty, and had it not<br />

been for the national situation early in 1917, would probably soon<br />

have secured the major license. He was twenty-one years old when<br />

he enlisted, in June, 1917, and was assigned to the medical detachment<br />

of the One Hundred and Twenty-fifth Field Artillery, going<br />

with the regiment to Camp Cody, New Mexico. There he died a<br />

year later, on June 2, 1918, of pneumonia.<br />

Carl William Peterson was the son of Aug<strong>us</strong>t W. Peterson, 5632<br />

West Eighth <strong>St</strong>reet, <strong>Duluth</strong>.<br />

Ernest O. Peterson, also of <strong>Duluth</strong>, was brother of Arthur W.<br />

Peterson, 2702 West Third <strong>St</strong>reet, <strong>Duluth</strong>.<br />

Harold Peterson, brother of Mrs. Carl Olson, 427 Forty-third<br />

Avenue, West, <strong>Duluth</strong>, lived in <strong>Duluth</strong> before the war came.<br />

Helmer A. Peterson was born in <strong>Duluth</strong>, and was well-known.<br />

He was born January 23, 1894, son of John and Hannah Peterson,<br />

and his academic schooling was obtained in <strong>Duluth</strong> schools. He<br />

became a pharmacist and in that capacity was employed at Beyers<br />

Drug <strong>St</strong>ore, <strong>Duluth</strong>, for some time before reporting for military<br />

duty on September 21, 1917. He was sent from <strong>Duluth</strong> to Camp<br />

Dodge, Iowa, and assigned to the Medical Corps, 350th F. A., 313th<br />

Sanitary Train. At Camp Dodge he remained for the winter and<br />

would probably have gone overseas in 1918 had he not succumbed<br />

to disease at Camp Dodge, on April 10, 1918. His mother now lives<br />

at 119 East Third <strong>St</strong>reet, <strong>Duluth</strong>.<br />

Henning O. Peterson lived at 520 West Superior <strong>St</strong>reet, <strong>Duluth</strong>,<br />

before entering the army. His brother, Arvid lives in Chicago.<br />

Rudolph Peterson was the son of Oscar R. Peterson, of 912 North<br />

Fifty-seventh Avenue, West, <strong>Duluth</strong>. Rudolph worked in <strong>Duluth</strong><br />

before entering the service.<br />

Elia Peteruka was of <strong>Duluth</strong> residence prior to the war, but<br />

appears to have no relatives in Minnesota. His brother, G<strong>us</strong>t Peteruka,<br />

is at Fort Morgan, Colorado.<br />

John Pitich was one of the boys from Buhl.<br />

John H. Pluth was of Ely, where his mother, who is now Mrs.<br />

Anna Matiehick, lives.<br />

Neno Molidro lived at Aurora, his papers state.<br />

George E. Porthan, of Ely, was the son of John E. Porthan, of<br />

that place. Porthan was killed in action in France.<br />

Mott Prelbich was also of Ely ; his father is John Prelbich.<br />

<strong>Louis</strong> Press lived at Chisholm before leaving for military service.<br />

His brother, Samuel, lives at Eveleth, at 705 Hayes <strong>St</strong>reet. <strong>Louis</strong><br />

was born Aug<strong>us</strong>t 17, 1891, at Trovi, R<strong>us</strong>sia, but had lived in the<br />

United <strong>St</strong>ates for many years before the war. He was enlisted in<br />

February, 1918, and went overseas with an infantry regiment. He<br />

was killed in action in France on Aug<strong>us</strong>t 15, 1918.<br />

Clyde E. Prudden, who became a major of the Medical Corps,<br />

United <strong>St</strong>ates army and was much respected by the men of the One<br />

Hundred and Twenty-fifth Field Artillery, was a well-known and<br />

successful physician of <strong>Duluth</strong> before the state of war into which the<br />

nation became in 1917 so radically changed the course of the lives<br />

of so many of its worthiest citizens. Major Prudden was born in<br />

<strong>Duluth</strong>, and attended local schools. For the medical course he proceeded<br />

to Northwestern University, from which he graduated with<br />

the degree of Doctor of Medicine, with the class of 1909. In 1912<br />

he was an associate of Dr. C. A. <strong>St</strong>ewart, in practice in <strong>Duluth</strong>, and
