Pathophysiology<br />

2. Course contents<br />

Lecture and classes:<br />

The role of pathophysiology and pathomorphology in medical sciences. Basic pathologic terms: health, disease, death.<br />

Clinical death and biological death. The symptoms of death. Etiology and pathogenesis. The course of a disease.<br />

Classifications of diseases. The stages of ontogenesis. Biological aspects of senility. Effects of environmental (physical,<br />

chemical and biological) factors on pathogenesis. Iatrogenic pathogenic factors. Pathologic processes: circulatory<br />

disturbances, retrogressive changes, progressive changes, inflammations. Non-neoplasmal proliferations and neoplasms.<br />

Inflammation – etiopathogenesis, classification, corrective processes. Acute phase reaction. Thermoregulation<br />

disorders. Fever and hypothermia. The defensive mechanisms of the organism. Immunity, allergic reactions,<br />

auto<strong>im</strong>munological diseases. Endocrine system pathology. Diabetes mellitus. Blood and hemopoietic system diseases.<br />

Circulatory system pathology. Shock. Respiratory system pathology. Al<strong>im</strong>entary tract, liver and the exocrine part of<br />

pancreas pathology. Jaundices. Excretory system pathology. The diseases of bones, joints and muscles. Central and<br />

peripheric nervous system pathology. Reproductive system disorders in females and males. Breast diseases. Skin<br />

pathology.<br />

3. Prerequisites<br />

The knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.<br />

4. Learning outcomes<br />

The students are familiar with morphologic and functional changes leading to diseases, during diseases and following<br />

diseases. The students are used to correct medical thinking.<br />
