History of Poland of The 20 th Century
2. Course contents
Lecture and classes
Polish issue in the period of the World War I (1914-1918). Formation of the conditions of Poland gaining back
independence. Creation of parliamentary democracy (1921- 1926). May coup and reorganization rule. Poland in
the period of World War II. Fight for Poland’s political form in 1944-1947. Poland in the period of Stalinism
(1948-1955). Poland’s political situation in 1956-1970. Poland in Gierek’s period. Ending of real socialism
(1980-1989). Process of constitutional transformation.

4. Learning outcomes
Graduate knows isomorphic view of the Poland’s history of the XXth century and understands the process of
historical development with special regard to political and social aspect. He or she can indicate the most
important stages of Poland’s history of the XXth century.
