2. Course contents<br />

Lecture<br />

Information technologies around us. Basis of computer techniques, use and application of computers. To make students<br />

familiar with the basic functions which arrange environment of a computer user in order to use computer effectively.<br />

Principles of classification of software. Utility programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access). Elements of algorithms.<br />

Telemedicine and health. Electronic medical history (EPR). Internet in nursing and medicine. Bibliographic database<br />

Medline, Medline, Core Biomedical Collection, CancerLit.<br />

Classes<br />

Basic use of computer operating systems (Windows, Linux). Text processing, using a computer for creating, editing,<br />

formatting, storing and printing documents. Spreadsheets, use computer to make repetitive calculations: preparing<br />

budgets, making forecasts, preparing charts and financial reports. Databases: creating and use of databases to organize<br />

large data resources, allowing quick and easy access to them. Managers graphics and presentation graphics: the use of<br />

graphic techniques as an effective means of communication. Program for medical office/ medical clinic/ hospital<br />

service. Internet: basic services, making own web site.<br />

4. Learning outcomes<br />

Students know: basic concepts and terms used in computer science, unit of information record, principles of good text<br />

editing and text formatting, selected service of computer networks, principles of conducting electronic correspondence,<br />

risk in information systems and risk occurring on the Internet, selected legal aspects relating to software licensing and<br />

copyright protection, the possibility of using information technologies in medicine<br />

Students can: effectively use the Windows operating system, edit and format text in a text editor, effectively search<br />

information on the Internet and process them, set up and use an e-mail program, prepare mult<strong>im</strong>edia presentations on<br />

the chosen topic, prepare a spreadsheet to perform s<strong>im</strong>ple calculations and analysis, use database and know the rules of<br />

designing s<strong>im</strong>ple queries, forms and reports, use the program for medical office / medical clinic / hospital service, use<br />

medical bibliographic databases online<br />
