Lecture<br />

Pragmatics as a branch of language description, crucial with regards to the mechanisms regulating language use,<br />

interdisciplinary charakter and theoretical traditions of the sciences of linguistic communications and ethnic<br />

language, forms of communication, types, levels and circulation of communication, mediality and mult<strong>im</strong>ediality<br />

of communication, language as a code and sign system, role, functions, varieties and dialects of ethnic language,<br />

language culture, linguistic awareness and competence, B. Bernstein’s sociolinguistic theory of language<br />

competence, H.P.Grice’s rules of linguistic cooperation, J.Habermas’ criteria of message <strong>im</strong>portance, linguistic<br />

diversity of the EU, official and working languages of the EU, the special status of English in the EU.<br />

3. Prerequisites<br />

None<br />

4. Learning outcomes<br />

Students will become familiar with the processes and mechanisms of linguistic communication, their cultural<br />

and social context, they will be taught how to <strong>im</strong>prove their individual verbal competence, their competence<br />

of interpreting contemporary phenomena of mono and polilinguism, linguistic persuasion and expansion, as well<br />

as understanding the differences between the styles of communication represented by teachers and students.<br />
