2. Course contents<br />

Lecture<br />

1.Interdisciplinary character and the theoretical traditions of the science of communication and the media.<br />

2.Classification of communication: forms (verbal, non-verbal), types (informational, persuasive), levels<br />

(intrapersonal, interpersonal, group, institutional, mass, global), subsystems (organisational, political, public,<br />

international, intercultural), circulation (public, private). 3.Axioms of communication. A style of communication<br />

versus gender and education. 4.Selected concepts and models of the process of communication. The interactive<br />

approach to communication. 5.Persuasiveness of Communications and influencing people. The Elaboration<br />

Likelihood Model of persuasion (ELM). Practical guidelines on persuasion. 6.Technological determinism.<br />

The development of the means of communication (from the invention of the print till modern computers)<br />

in the context of satisfying human needs. 7.Stages in the development of communication and the media.<br />

8. Mass communication, the mass society, pop culture, ideology of consumption and the hedonist pluralist<br />

society. 10.Media system. 12.The information revolution and the information society in Poland.<br />

14. The convergence of the media, the new media and the Internet in communication.<br />

4. Learning outcomes<br />

Familiarisation of students with the processes and mechanisms of communication between people, basic<br />

information on the Information Society, the development of an individual communicational competence,<br />

the development of the ability to interpret major contemporary phenomena: public persuasion, mediatisation<br />

of public life, globalization of communication.<br />
