Graduate profile in Communication with the Media in English<br />

Apart from their relevant qualification, the graduates of English Philology specialising in<br />

communication with the media have also gained adequate knowledge and developed their skills of<br />

broadly understood interpersonal communication. They are conscious of the <strong>im</strong>portance of the<br />

media and public opinion to the society, and they have learnt to shape this opinion respecting the<br />

existing legal and ethical regulations. They have been trained to use adequate forms of public<br />

statements, in particular the statements made for the media both in Polish and English, as well as<br />

creating convincing advertisements and commercials. The knowledge and skills acquired in the<br />

course of study will enable the graduates to find employment in the press, radio and TV stations, a<br />

variety of editorial offices and publishing houses as well as broadly understood advertising. Apart<br />

from that, they will also be able to apply for the jobs of public <strong>im</strong>age specialists in a wide range of<br />

companies, offices and organizations.<br />

Apart from the philological competence, formation within the field of Communication with<br />

the Media in English a<strong>im</strong>s at a development of the competence within:<br />

the knowledge of:<br />

- correct formulation of thoughts in Polish and English;<br />

- methods, techniques and the role of public relations;<br />

- the media system in Poland and around the world;<br />

- verbal and non-verbal communication;<br />

- advertising methods and techniques;<br />

- legal and ethical regulations relating to obtaining information;<br />

- IT use in their professional life,<br />

the ability to:<br />

- correctly formulate thoughts in Polish and English;<br />

- create and use informative and journalistic genres;<br />

- receive media message consciously and critically;<br />

- gather and evaluate information;<br />

- plan and <strong>im</strong>plement public <strong>im</strong>age creation-related tasks using public relations tools and the latest<br />

technologies;<br />

- understand the mechanisms conditioning the functioning of the media;<br />

- cope with public appearance-related stress;<br />

- stress their strengths in professional contacts,<br />

attitudes (behaviours):<br />

- awareness of their roles in public life;<br />

- sensitivity to the social reality;<br />

- active participation in public life;<br />

- attention to correctness of speech;<br />

- readiness to <strong>im</strong>prove their knowledge;<br />

- interest in artefacts;<br />

- taking responsibility for the outcome of their work;<br />

- fairness in their attitudes towards their profession.<br />
