Graduate profile in English Translation Studies<br />

Apart from their relevant qualification, the graduates of English Philology specialising in<br />

translation studies have also gained adequate knowledge and developed their skills<br />

of translation from Polish into English and vice versa. They are familiar with the theoretical and<br />

practical aspects of the translating profession and its reality. They have been trained<br />

to conduct translating activities individually and in a team, respecting the existing legal regulations.<br />

The knowledge and skills acquired in the course of study will enable<br />

the graduates to find employment in translation agencies, cultural institutions, institutions<br />

of the local government, travel agencies and institutions, publishing houses, editorial offices, the<br />

media and the service sector, where fluency in English is essential.<br />

Apart from the philological competence, formation within<br />

the field of Translation Studies in English a<strong>im</strong>s at a development of the competence within:<br />

theoretical knowledge:<br />

- of translation of stylistically and functionally diverse texts;<br />

- of the translating workshop;<br />

- of the organisation and techniques of translation;<br />

- of the use of English in oral and written translation;<br />

- of marketing and economic activities;<br />

- of legal regulations relating to obtaining information;<br />

- of IT use for translation,<br />

ability to:<br />

- use English on C1 level;<br />

- use IT for translation;<br />

- organise their translating workshop;<br />

- accurately perform oral and written translation from and into English of stylistically and<br />

functionally diverse texts;<br />

- plan and <strong>im</strong>plement a variety of professional activities;<br />

- <strong>im</strong>prove their skills and put forward innovative ideas;<br />

- successfully adapt to their professional environment,<br />

attitudes (behaviours):<br />

- readiness to <strong>im</strong>prove their skills through translating practice;<br />

- taking responsibility for the outcome of their work;<br />

- attention to correctness of speech;<br />

- fairness in their attitude to their profession;<br />

- fairness towards other participants of their professional life.<br />
