Graduate profile<br />

The graduates of the Faculty of English Philology specialising in Computer Science are<br />

entitled to teach English, computer science and IT. As teachers-to-be, apart from their relevant<br />

qualification, they also have basic pedagogical and psychological knowledge, indispensable for<br />

a thorough understanding of the social and cultural contexts and mechanisms of linguistic formation<br />

and designing the career path. The graduates have mastered the ability to develop their<br />

methodology workshop as well as <strong>im</strong>proving their practical skills and knowledge of teaching. They<br />

have also undergone adequate professional training, as well as developing the ability to reflect on<br />

their professional careers and understand the educational reality. The graduates specialising in this<br />

particular field of study can also find employment as cultural an<strong>im</strong>ators, publicists specialising in<br />

the civilisation and literature of English-speaking countries or interpreters.<br />

Apart from that, choosing an alternative specialisation of English Language Teaching, the<br />

graduates can obtain the qualification to teach computer science in pr<strong>im</strong>ary schools<br />

or gymnasium as well as IT in secondary schools. They are familiar with the relevant methods and<br />

tools indispensable for teaching computer science, as well as applying IT to other sciences. As a<br />

result of a complex training, the graduates have learnt to use specialist literature to adapt easily to<br />

the constantly-changing teaching syllabi.<br />

Apart from the philological competence, formation within the specialisation of English and<br />

Computer Science a<strong>im</strong>s at a development of the competence within:<br />

knowledge of:<br />

- the teaching specialisations: English, Computer Science, IT;<br />

- psychology and pedagogy;<br />

- methodology of English language, Computer Science and IT teaching;<br />

- use of English and IT in the classroom,<br />

ability to:<br />

- use English on C1 level;<br />

- use IT for a variety of purposes, including teaching;<br />

- teach English, Computer Science and IT;<br />

- successfully plan, <strong>im</strong>plement and evaluate educational processes;<br />

- recognise students’ needs and cooperate in interpersonal relations;<br />

- behave effectively, verbally and non-verbally, in the classroom;<br />

- <strong>im</strong>prove their skills, innovate and adapt to their professional environment,<br />

attitudes (behaviours):<br />

- readiness to <strong>im</strong>prove their knowledge of the relevant teaching specialisations;<br />

- readiness to <strong>im</strong>prove their skills (courses, conferences, etc.);<br />

- taking responsibility for the outcome of their work;<br />

- fairness in their approach to pupils, fellow-teachers and the material covered in class.<br />
