ECTS credits
4
1. Course name
Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM)
2. Course contents
Lecture
Thematic scope:
1. Review of NC machine tools and control systems
2. Structure of a NC program, interpolations
3. Machining cycles, correction of a tool.
4. Methods of geometric modelling, modelling of assumptions, data exchange.
5. Paths of tools for NC machine tools.
6. Machining operations (drilling, milling, etc.).
7. Modelling of post-processors.
8. Designing and optimisation of manufacturing processes.
Laboratory
Preparing a drawing for the CAM module, generating a tool path for NC machine tools, generating a NC program
basing on CLDATA data obtained in CAM software. Within learning about CAM systems, the milling and turning
modules will be presented. In addition, participants in the classes will familiarize themselves with the post-processor
generation module. The classes will be conducted with the use of CAD/CAM systems.
3. Prerequisites
Passed “Computer-aided engineering work - CAM/CAD” course.
4 . Learning outcomes
Students are able to: specify the features and functionalities of CAM systems, describe the rules of machine tool controlling,
use the geometry modeling methods in technological processes design, operate CAM tools on semi-advanced level, among
others: prepare a drawing for the CAM module, evaluate the drawing correctness and accuracy, generate a tool path for NC
machine tools, generate a NC program basing on CLDATA data obtained from CAM software, use the milling module for
preparing a tool path, use turning module for preparing a tool path, describe the role and application of post-processors,
develop the post-processor using creator, apply the post-processor. Analyze the optimization problems of manufacturing
processes, choose optimal machining method and motivate the choice.
