Continuous Improvement Management<br />

2. Course contents<br />

Lecture<br />

The origins of continuous <strong>im</strong>provement concept (Kaizen philosophy). Essence and objectives of Kaizen. Kaizen and<br />

engineering. Gemba kaizen principles. Standardization – SDCA circle. Work station organization based on 5S<br />

principles. Waste el<strong>im</strong>ination and redaction (muda). Six Sigma strategy. Assembly line balansing. Total Preventive<br />

Maintenance. Process evaluation measures: production cycle indicator, OEE indicator. Continuous <strong>im</strong>provement in<br />

TQM strategy. Continuous <strong>im</strong>provement in JIT/Lean Production strategy. Continuous <strong>im</strong>provement methods,<br />

techniques and tools: 5 questions why, Pareto analysis, QFD, FMEA, PDCA, Ishikawa diagram, SMED, Value Stream<br />

Mapping.<br />

Credition of Service and Production Management course,<br />

4. Learning outcomes<br />

Student knows the essence and objectives the continuous <strong>im</strong>provement philosophy and principles of Gemba Kaizen.<br />

Student can describe the 5 S principles and their <strong>im</strong>plementation in organization of work stations. Student knows the<br />

kinds of waists (muda) and he can distinguish the value added activities in production lead t<strong>im</strong>e. Student can describe<br />

the essence of Six Sigma strategy and DMAIC process. Student can design assembly line using line balancing method.<br />

Student knows process evaluation measures (OEE indicator). Student knows continuous <strong>im</strong>provement methods: 5S, 5<br />

questions Why, Pareto diagram, Ishikawa diagram, PDCA loop, value stream mapping.<br />
