Basics of fluid mechanics and thermodynamics<br />

2. Course contents<br />

Lecture<br />

Basic concepts of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics. Properties of pure substances. Energy transfer by heat, work<br />

and mass. The first Law of thermodynamics. The second Law of thermodynamics. Power and refrigeration cycles. Gas<br />

mixture and Psychrometrics. Fluid statics. Bernoulli and energy Equations. Momentum analysis of flow structures.<br />

Flow in pipe. Flow over bodies: drag and lift.<br />

Determine of thermodynamics properties of substances (property tables, gas equation of state); est<strong>im</strong>ating energy<br />

balance; determine of thermal efficiency of heat engines, refrigerators and heat pumps; determining the the<br />

termodynamics properties of air-vapor mixtures; determinig the hydrostatic forces, drags and pressure drops.<br />

4. Learning outcomes<br />

Student has knowledge in the field of transfer and conversion of energy; properties of substances and way of their<br />

description; fundamental laws of thermodynamics and fluid mechanics; way of modeling the thermodynamics<br />

processes, cycles and isothermal flows; est<strong>im</strong>ating the properties appearing during flows in duct and pipe as well as<br />

flows over bodies.<br />
