The Witelon University of Applied Sciences in Legnica - Field: Management and production engineering
ECTS credits
2
1. Course title
Operational research
2. Course contents:
Lecture
Introduction to programming: the notion of a set of feasible solutions, boundary conditions and restrictions, the
objective function. Examples of such issues. A mathematical model for programming and linear programming. Graphic
method and the simplex method for constructing an optimal decision. Selected problems of linear programming: the
choice of the production mix, compound the problem, the choice of production technology,
dual programming elements. Transport problem (open and closed issue of transportation) and how to solve them.
Problems of resource allocation as an example the problem of allocation of tasks (answering the problem, the problem
of delegation), the definition of the problem, mathematical model and solution methods (Konig method).
Classes
The aim of the classes is to learn the ways of solving practical decisional problems using operational research.
Interpretation and discussion of results.
3. Prerequisites
Credit in „Mathematics”
4. Learning outcomes
The student knows the basis of theoretical and practical aspects of optimal decision-making processes. Can modeled
one of the four topics of linear programming and programming. He knows how to interpret the model of the occurring
phenomena of an economic nature. Can geometrical method and the method of dual programming to find the optimal
decision. Understands the importance of the issues of allocation. Able to define and then solve the problem of allocation
of tasks on the example the problem of secretaries or delegations. He knows and is able to use Koenig's algorithm for
finding the optimum solution.
