Nave's Bible Guide is derived from Nave’s Topical Bible by Orville J. Nave. The motivation for producing this work has
been to carry forward the information in Nave’s Topical Bible while enhancing it’s portability and utility. Toward this end,
the following changes have been made.
1. Smaller
By assuming the reader has access to a separate Bible, the actual verses appearing within Nave’s Topical Bible can
be removed. This drastically reduces the size of Nave's Bible Guide.
2. Topic Guide
Nave's Bible Guide lists verse addresses for each topic, but omits verse contents. (The assumption is made that the
reader has ready access to a separate Bible.) This results in a complete topical index of over 30,000 entries
presented within a fraction of the pages found in the original Nave’s Topical Bible.
3. Chapter Guide
The cryptic page/column index from the appendix of Nave’s Topical Bible has been superceded by a new computergenerated
index. The new index lists topics by name and subheading number for each chapter of the Bible providing
easier access to corresponding topics within the Topic Guide. The Chapter Guide identifies over 78,000 topics by
their location within Scripture.
4. Topic Numbers
Each major topic has been assigned a numeric code which can be used as an abbreviation for the topic. For
instance, when referring to the topic “AARON #1” from your own notes or margin of your Bible it may be more
convenient simply to write “1.” Each subheading within a major topic is also numbered allowing any particular topic
and subheading to be precisely specified as a sequence of numbers. For example, the sequence 315.25.2 would
denote “ANTICHRIST” (315), “Titles of” (25), “The Beast” (25.2).
5. How to Study the Bible
Rev. R. A. Torrey’s helpful comments concerning how to study the Bible have been adapted from the preface of
Torrey’s Topical Textbook.
It is my prayer that these improvements will allow more people to benefit from Orville Nave’s original work. Like Nave’s
Topical Bible, the Nave's Bible Guide may be used in any form for any purpose with or without credit.
