is definitely worth a visit. Here you can 'experience'
the extreme storms of the legendary Cape Horn. To
the east, in the Albaro quarter, stands the timeless
fishing village of Boccadasse. Tourists can delight in
the brightly painted buildings typical of the Genoese
scene, the small beach with its gozzi (typical local
fishing boats) and fishing nets and the many local
cats, possible descendants of Ciacola, the cat
celebrated in an Italian song by Gino Paoli. Here
time seems to have stood still and the ice-cream
parlour with its original old 1927 marble shop sign
Latteria Igienica (Hygenic Milk Bar) is evidence of
this. A bit further to the east, amongst noble villas,
tree-lined roads, lush green parks and hotels dating
back to the beginning of the XX century stands out
the “old style”sea village of Nervi, Genoa's “last
municipality”. Its quay, with its boats and fishing
nets hung out to dry in the sun, is surrounded by the
tall coloured houses of the old village. From here to
Capolungo between the railroad and the sea,
stretches the romantic Anita Garibaldi promenade.
Dotted with ice-cream parlours, coffee-bars and
lidos, along its steep paths cut into the cliff faces
tourists are offered unique and breathtaking views
of Genoa, and the coastline from the Paradiso Gulf
to the promontory of Portofino.
Sea events
> Slow Fish. This is a springtime event
held every two years at the Fiera di
Genova Fair of Genoa. The event is
organised with Slow Food around
themes of fishing culture and the
safeguarding of marine resources

> The Historic Regatta of the Ancient
Maritime Republics, is held every 4
years, in the month of June, at the
Porto Antico. The four “Maritime
Republics” of Amalfi, Genoa, Pisa and
Venice compete in the regatta, in a re
portrayal of their historical splendour.
The prize is a medieval galley kept for
a year by the winning city.
> International Boat Show. The
second week of October, at the Fiera di
Genova. With more that 1,600
exhibitors, 2,200 boats and all the
necessary equipment needed to go
sailing, this is a world leading boat
show event
