design from the period between 1880 and1945.
In the eastern section of Nervi there is the Villa
Luxoro (early XXth century), its 8,500 m2 park
slopes down to the rocky shores of Capolungo. Its
rooms host the Civic Museum Giannettino
Luxoro, which exhibits furniture, paintings and
decors from a period spanning the seventeenth
and eighteenth centuries. Comago: Old english
Style. Villa Serra, (www.villaserra.it) at Comago, in
Val Polcevera, near Sant’Olcese, is an imaginative
creation of the XVIIIth century, remodelled in the
neo gothic style in the XIXth century. In fact,
alongside the eighteenth century Villa Pinelli and
medieval tower, Marquis Orso Serra had a Tudor
style cottage built in 1850; featuring neo gothic
windows and precious wood panelling. All set in
a magnificent English park, extending over 9
hectares, with avenues towered over by majestic
trees, exotic tree species and flowerbeds with
over 150 different varieties of hydrangeas. There
are various fountains scattered here and there,
and a small lake inhabited by swans. There is
even a charming hotel and restaurant, that has
opened in the crenulated tower.
A balcony over
the Sea
From Bogliasco take the road up to
San Bernardo. From here its path,
partly paved, passing through heather
and rosemary bushes, leads to Pieve
Alta. Behind the Church, following the
signposts (2 red squares), one climbs
up to Mount Santa Croce (518 m),
crowned by the historical stone church
surrounded by cypresses. A group of
volunteers from Pieve regularly clear
the paths, fields and undergrowth,
where small orchids sprout, in order to
protect the environment, and reduce
the risk of large scale forest fires,
increasing access to this splendid
balcony overhanging the sea.
