Partisan Museum
history. TrebbiaValley, Caproni's poems and partisan
missions. When you leaveTorriglia following the state
road that goes east along theTrebbiaValley, you can
stop over in Montebruno.The three arch bridge
constructed by the Doria family links the centre with the
Sanctuary of Nostra Signora di Montebruno (1486),
where a wooden statue of the HolyVirgin is kept.The
annexed Augustinian convent hosts the Museum of
Peasant Culture which exhibits the tools, inventions and
experience used to work on the land. In the cemetery of
Loco is the tomb of the poet Giorgio Caproni, who lived
and taught in the primary school for many years.
Northwards taking a small detour you reach Rondanina,
the smallest council district of Liguria.The Church of San
Nicola was built in the XIIIth century, on the remains of a
Roman building. One can admire the beauty of nature
by visiting the Museum of Flora and Fauna, situated in
the Monte Antola Park. On the first floor there is the
small Rifugio Rondanina. Propata is to be found
amongst the beech forests, its, Partisan Museum,
contains memorabilia of Brigata Jori, a former partisan
of the area. After Rovegno, with its Parish Church of San
Giovanni Evangelista decorated in stucco, one comes
across Gorreto, a border town, and gateway to the
Piacentino.The Centurione Palace (XVIIth century) is well
preserved, displaying black and white striped walls.
Brevenna Valley
between the Middle Ages
and the Baroque Era
Between the watershed of Mount Antola
and the Scrivia River, runs the Brevenna
river valley immersed in a natural
environment of predominantly
hardwood forests. Its centre
Valbrevenna is formed by seven frazioni
(Italian council districts), which in
summer are populated by holiday
makers. At Molino Vecchio, location of
the Town Hall, the Sanctuary of the
Madonna dell’Acqua is an example of
the popular architectural style of the
time (1744). At Frassinello parts of the
Hunting Palace of the Fieschi are open to
the public. The ruins of the Fieschi Castle
(XII sec.), the Palazzo (XVth century), and
the Ethnological Section of the Historical
Museum of the Alta Scrivia Valley,
exhibiting ancient farming tools can all
be admired in Senarega.
