Vineland Nursery 1858 Catalog C.C. Langdon 1858 Alabama C. C. Langdon established the first, and certainly the largest, nursery operating in the Mobile, Alabama, in 1853. It was located twenty-seven miles north of Mobile at Langdon Station, and a sales office was maintained in Mobile. First known as Vineland Nursery, a few years later the name was changed to Langdon Nurseries and operated under Mr. Langdon’s direction until his death on June 8, 1889. MOBILE: FARROW & DENNETT, PRINTERS, 3 NORTH WATER STREET 1858 Vineland Nursery is situated immediately on the Mobile and Ohio Railroad, 29 miles north of Mobile, and the facilities for shipping, with speed and safety, to all parts of southern and middle Alabama by the rivers, and to eastern Mississippi by railroad, are unsurpassed. All trees will be securely packed and distinctly labeled (for which there will be a charge sufficient only to pay the actual cost) and the packages delivered on the steamboat or railroad in Mobile at the prices respectively named in the list, the purchaser paying freight from Mobile. When thus delivered, and a receipt taken, the packages will be entirely at the risk of the purchaser. 210
