Alabama<br />

C. C. Langdon established the first, and certainly the largest, nursery operating in the<br />

Mobile, Alabama, in 1853. It was located twenty-seven miles north of Mobile at Langdon<br />

Station, and a sales office was maintained in Mobile. First known as Vineland Nursery, a<br />

few years later the name was changed to Langdon Nurseries and operated under Mr.<br />

Langdon’s direction until his death on June 8, 1889.<br />

Vineland Nursery is situated immediately on the Mobile and Ohio Railroad, 29 miles<br />

north of Mobile, and the facilities for shipping, with speed and safety, to all parts of southern and<br />

middle Alabama by the rivers, and to eastern Mississippi by railroad, are unsurpassed. All trees<br />

will be securely packed and distinctly labeled (for which there will be a charge sufficient only to<br />

pay the actual cost) and the packages delivered on the steamboat or railroad in Mobile at the<br />

prices respectively named in the list, the purchaser paying freight from Mobile. When thus<br />

delivered, and a receipt taken, the packages will be entirely at the risk of the purchaser.<br />
