DIVISION 3
convincing first up win by 118 points. The Reserves
took off from where the U19’s left off and got off
to a big first quarter start and at the long break were
leading by 45 points eventually winning by 118 points
also. Another great team effort and a fitting result to
celebrate Oeys 200th game. The Seniors started off
well but kicked inaccurately in the first quarter. The
second quarter saw Glen Waverley take control and
bang on eight goals which left them leading by 19
points at halftime. More of the same in the third and
we were in deep trouble. Kicking towards the pavilion
and home crowd in the last term the home team rallied
and showed a lot of grit and pride to produce their best
football for the day. With minutes to go they managed
to get two points in front but Glen Waverley in a last
ditch effort managed to kick the goal they needed to
win a nail biting game. The awards this week will be
held at the Knox Club at 6.30pm. Don’t forget the
R’n’B Night on the 28th April at the Clubrooms from
7.30pm. Entry is just $5.00 and drinks are at bar prices.
warranDYte: It was always going to be a tough
assignment for all three grades hosting Boronia in
round 1. The under 19’s dominated general play
for most of the match but could not covert this into
scoreboard pressure and ended up going down by three
goals. We are still on the lookout for helpers for the
under 19’s (parents I’m talking to you), please make
yourself know to Justin Hansen or Dale Falkingham
and help get the boys on the park week in week out.
The Reserves were simply outgunned by a bigger and
more experienced Boronia outfit. Jake Bentley staked
a claim for senior selection and Jack Wright presented
well in what was otherwise a reasonably forgettable
game. The seniors started slowly.
Very slowly. Boronia kicked
the first four goals of the game
before the Bloods had fired a
shot. Eventually the seniors
worked themselves back into
the match and thanks to some
Morello magic and some good
finishing by Jobby Hand, the
boys stayed in the hunt with
just seconds to play. A late shot
on goal sailed centimetres wide,
Boronia cleared the ball from
the resulting kick in and time
(as usual) got away! Looking
forward to three good games
today against Coldstream and
hopefully we can get off our duck
in all grades. The website (www.
warrandytefc.com) is about to be
re launched so keep checking in
for match reports, club news and to check out all the
club sponsors. Tonight after awards at the rooms is the
90’s iPod shuffle party. Sure to be a cracker function so
dig up your 90’s threads ready and be ready to shuffle
the night away. GO BLOODS!
whitehorse pioneers: A huge challenge as
we fronted up against the North Ringwood sides on
the weekend. Under new coach Steve Raymond and
with an average age of 20, the young reserves side
started well and held their own for the first half against
bigger and more experienced opposition. Unfortunately
North Ringwood put the foot down in the third term
to pile on the goals and establish a winning lead at
three quarter time. The Seniors started the game well
and missed easy opportunities early before the North
Ringwood side showed their class to kick goals at will.
Despite having plenty of possession and winning our
share of the contested football, we paid the price for
skill errors and turnovers and the scoreboard at half
time was horrible for us and the game beyond reach.
With 12 new players to the side, we will take some
time to gel as a team, but there were some good sings
and certainly something to build on with the young
and enthusiastic group. Once again we are fortunate to
have the support of a number of valued sponsors and
we thanks them for their continued support during the
THE PARKER FAMILY CUP
The Ringwood and Heathmont Football Clubs have plenty in common.
Geographically, they cannot get much closer to each other, hence why a number of players have
transferred between He Parker Reserve and Jubilee Park over the years. But today they will
celebrate and recognise a special family that has given outstanding commitment and service to the
two clubs over a number of years. When Heathmont and Ringwood clash at Jubilee Park today,
they will be playing for the ‘Parker Family Cup’, in recognition of what the Parker family has done
for both clubs. Gordon Parker has not only been the mayor of Ringwood but has also been heavily
involved with the Ringwood Football Club and football in general in the outer East. He was
president and secretary of the Redbacks before taking up the role as President of the Eastern
Districts Football League between 1982 and 1988.
Rob Parker played footy for Ringwood but has been involved with Heathmont for the past 30 odd
years. He has been a Secretary, President, Treasurer, Committee member and undertaken a
number of other roles during his number of years of service to the Jets.
The winning team will receive the cup and hold onto it until the two teams meet again at HE
Parker Reserve in Round 18 later this season. In that game later in the season, two medals will be
presented to the best player from each team.
For the record the two teams have met 13 times. Ringwood has won 12 of those games and
Heathmont just the one. The Redbacks have won the past three clashes.
