Boronia: Round 1 we all went to Warrandyte and
to come away with three wins is a great start for the
club, especially with so many new faces. The U19’s
kicked the dew off and did what they had to do to get
the four points. There is some very exciting talent in this
side and should have their sights set on finals action.
The Ressies went into the game with a very strong side
and they out gunned their opposition to run away very
comfortable winners. The Seniors got off to a flyer,
booting the first five goals of the game. Warrandyte then
steadied and starting slowly pegging back the margin.
We then kicked clear again to be four goals up, but
Warrandyte got within a kick. Thankfully the siren went
leaving the result four points in our favour. That’s your
close one for the year boys, as the President can’t handle
too many more of those. This week the Nth Ringwood
Saints head to our deck in our first home game for the
season. Well done to the boys for organising the Round
The World night with some very humorous outfits and
apparently Mr Whippy visiting a little later in the early
hours. The first President’s lunch is 5 May with former
Essendon champ Scotty Lucas spinning a few yarns.
See Tim, Cam or Collo for tickets. Don’t forget to get
your season memberships as it is hugely important for
the club. See Hans or Belly. Go Hawkers.
ChirnsiDe parK: What a great start to Season
2012. Round 1 saw all three teams win at home
over Coldstream. Well done to the Masters who also
had a win on Sunday in their first round of the year
and good luck to the Vets who kick off their season
tomorrow. Round 2 sees us take on Glen Waverley
Hawks. It would be great to see all teams come out
on top again. Thanks to all our supporters who have
been coming to Thursday night training and enjoying a
meal afterwards. Don’t forget to mark our Ladies Day
Luncheon / Band night in your calendar for Saturday
12th May. Tickets are selling fast so see Geoff Pierce
or Helen Steer to get yours before they’re sold out. For
further details on upcoming events see our website
CoLDstream: Not a very auspicious start. The
Colts kicked their season off with a pretty lacklustre
performance. I have never seen a team having so much
of the ball lose a game by such a margin. Kicking skills
need a lot of improvement. We can probably put this
down to first round jitters, but let’s hope it doesn’t
continue. The Ressies, despite an almost complete
change of personnel, produced the same old same old.
There’s plenty of skill and talent, but they just need to
follow instructions. Things can only look up from here.
The Seniors got off to a flying start, kicking the first
three goals of the match into a four-goal breeze. They
didn’t trouble the scoreboard at all in the second stanza
and finding themselves a substantial margin down. The
second half saw the awakening, the Cougars started to
DIVISION 3
run all over the opposition banging through goal after
goal, they were clearly the fitter side. Although the
Panthers ran out of legs it was too little too late with
the Cougars going down by nine points. This week we
play Warrandyte at the fortress, history shows that this
will be a great contest. Best of luck to all sides. GO!
GO! COUGARS!!
gLen waVerLeY hawKs: For our club’s
introduction to Division 3, the Wantirna South boys
gave us a great experience. It was good to come away
with the four points in Round 1, but for spectators it
did little for the old heart! Going into the last break
the boys had what most people at Wanny South would
have thought was comfortable lead, however nobody
told the Hawks they had only got to three quarter time!
Wantirna South came out with determination and piled
on the goals to reach a two-point advantage late in the
term. The last quarter became a nail biter and thankfully
when the final siren sounded the scoreboard showed a
four point advantage to the Hawks. The Reserves and
under 19’s came up against some very good opposition
with both teams being soundly beaten. Training during
the week has been intense to say the least and we are
looking forward to a far better display from both sides.
On the social side the clubs first function ‘Beauty
and the Geek’ will be held tonight at the rooms and it
promises to be a big one, (and the buckets are back).
For all club news keep an eye on the club web site
www.glenwaverleyhawks.com or on the notice boards
around the club. Congrats to Paul Hewett taking on the
Junior Presidency for season 2012. We know you will
be great! GO HAWKS!
heathmont: Last week we had a huge crowd to
witness the unfurling of our 2011 Premiership Flag.
Last year the players dedicated the season to the
memory of Rex Ablett and the Club decided that Pat
Ablett be given the honour of unfurling the Flag. The
senior side showed that if you have the whole side
focussed and committed to the team plans then it
does not matter what division you play in. Four solid
quarters resulted in win against Templestowe with all
players contributing to the result. Best players Rob
Savory, Dylan RL, Mem, Levo & Oders. Thanks to
Jenny at Barry Plant Heathmont for their best player
award. Our reserves are a young side and showed that
they will be competitive this year but must play out
the whole game. Best: Jake Sheriff, Sean Furniss, Matt
Beasley & Nathan Parker. Today we play Ringwood
for the Parker Cup, which recognises the contribution
that the Parker family have given to both Clubs. Rob
has been President, Secretary, Treasurer and numerous
other roles in his 30 odd years at Heathmont and before
that as a player at Ringwood. Rob’s Dad Gordon was
President & Secretary at Ringwood before his role of
President of the EFL. Tonight at the Hangar is the Frat
