dIvISION 2 ClUB NOTeS
BaYswater: A great start to 2012 with impressive wins
at Doncaster last week. The Under 19's were far too strong,
extending the lead at each break to run out comfortable
winners by 164 points. The most pleasing thing was an even
spread of performances with 14 goal scorers, led by Carlos
with fivw and Leacy and Grubby with four each. Better
players in a great team effort were Leacy, Carlos, Grubb,
Iellamo, Malmborg and Kean. The Reserves also proved
too strong, racing away in the second half to a commanding
79-point win. Several players are now putting up their hands
for senior selection with Vanderlaak, Hall, Cook, Atkinson
and Benny Stallion outstanding on the day. The Seniors
certainly didn't have it all their own way with the first three
quarters being an arm wrestle with the lead changing several
times. A five-point lead at the first change plus four goals
early in the second term was whittled away with six goals
straight from the Sharks for them to lead by eight points at the
half. Five goals each in the third set the stage for a tough last
quarter. We slogged it out with another five goals to prevail
in the end by 13 points. Five match winning goals to Bryce
Galvin, with McInerney four, Burmeister and Winterton two
each with singles to Bakker, Comb, Redzic, Hayhurst. Best:
Burmeister, Murphy, McInerney, Winterton, Leach and B.
Galvin. The Club would appreciate as much support today at
the Presidents and H2O luncheon to cheer on a win over the
powerful Montrose Club. Go Baysie.
DonCaster: Not the way we wanted to kick the new
season off with all three sides going down to Bayswater
last week. Colts were out gunned in all areas. Best – Lepp,
Leonard & Galluzzo. Reserves looked good in patches for
the first 3 quarters but were disappointing in the last to lose
comfortably. Best – Salamon, Letch & Tempany. Seniors
were in a highly entertaining game with a fairly even first
quarter before Bayswater kicked away early in the second. We
clawed our way back into the game by half time. There was
nothing in it in the second half, with Bayswater having just a
bit more polish in the last as we went down by two goals. Best
– Parker, McKenzie, Liebelt, Polak, Schimma & Muller. This
week we are at Waverly Blues. Coterie numbers have passed
the 90 mark – see Lad to sign up – a great value package.
Ladies Night/Players review is next week at the Club Rooms
– not many tickets left but we could do with a couple more
acts - see Schimma.
DonCaster east: Kicked off with the Under 19’s
last week and happy to report they handled themselves well
against Montrose winning comfortably. Thanks to Jason
Hardwick and his team of helpers who made the game day
run smoothly by all who assisted in doing their required tasks
and taking the load of the committee. The Ressies had a few
late scratchings, but with time and fitness on their side they
will improve once they get to know one another. Best on the
day, Ryan Gordon, Matt Carlson, Logga, Al Theo, Matt and
Dan Vaiano. Seniors played well most of the day but there
were a few players down on form. We looked like wrestling
the game back early in the last quarter with two early goals
from Tim Whitty but some bad turnovers and mistakes cost
us dearly in the end, going down by five goals. Best –Tim
Whitty, L.McLeod, J.Marshall, D.Mead and J.Lowther. Get
to the Players Auction tonight, bring your friends, parents and
partners and buy up big and help the Club. See you all around
the traps today. Buy a membership of Josh Pratt who will
be very happy to assist. If you want to have a scrumptious
lunch come upstairs from 12.30, $30 per head, two-course
meal and drinks at bar prices. We would love to see you. Go
Donny East!
DonVaLe: Seniors – Last week we started our season at
Upper Gully. At quarter time we were only a couple of points
up. Ten minutes after the first change, Upper Gully had a four
goal lead and we looked in for a long afternoon. However
we managed to be within a kick at three quarter time. We
kept putting the footy inside 50 for our forwards. We had our
chances but couldn’t kick that last major. In all a creditable
performance and basically turnovers cost us. Reserves – Got
off to a flyer and seemed on the way to a sizeable lead at
quarter time. We let our opposition in for a few goals and then
got blown away in the second term. After the main break we
held our own but never really looked like bridging the margin.
Confident the twos will continue to improve. Colts – Upper
Gully kicked four majors before we knew what happened.
They had some real talent and we were outpointed. We did
get back in the game in the third quarter but spent our pennies
and fell short by 33 points. Today we welcome Mulgrave to
Donvale. Always had close games and no doubt the same is on
the cards. Also Ladies Luncheon today in Social Rooms from
2.00pm onwards. Don’t forget our next Home Game against
Mooroolbark – Saturday 5th May. 1988-1992 reunion (5
Senior Flags & 3 Reserve Flags). Plenty of old faces returning
to the Club for a Day/Night to remember.
montrose: At last a game of football at Montrose and
our faithful supporters turned out on a beautiful day to watch
us play Doncaster East. The Colts started proceedings well
and could have been in front at halftime. A costly lapse in the
third quarter gave Donny East the ascendancy for the rest of
the match. Colts best were Andy Condello, Jason Bennington,
Nick Holloway and Nick Bark. The Development Team
started slowly and was given a rev by Chad at the big break.
This resulted in a more fluent game of football and a win
by 100 points. Best players- Leam Doughty, Seb Colakidis,
Gibby, Speedy Den Elzen and Heath Roberts. The senior
game was an interesting struggle until half way through the
last quarter. Montrose found an extra gear towards the end
of the final quarter and went on to win by 38 points. Best
players-Weathers, Cookie, Sammy, Barney and Andy Knee.
Today we venture down to Bayswater Oval, the scene of
many close and interesting clashes over the last few years. On
the social front the clubrooms will open tonight with awards
presented at 7pm. Note in your diaries our first band night
is on Saturday May 5 at 8pm. ‘White Man Can’t Reggae’
will be supplying the music and the players and supporters
are encouraged to dress according to the theme of the night.
moorooLBarK: Judging by last week’s opening
round results, Division 2 is going to be a fiercely contested
competition in season 2012. The Mustangs hosted Waverley
Blues at The Heights Reserve in balmy conditions. The
Colts started proceedings and unfortunately went down to
the Blues by three points after trailing by four goals at threequartertime.
Robert Johns was our major goalkicker with
three while better players were Hirvonen, Pike, Sutherland,
Bishop, Watkins & Taylor. The Reserves were next but they
also failed to get across the line, going down by 57 points.
Best were Lee, Belli, D.Dimitriou, Bucsuhazy, Verhoef
& A.Ahmet. A healthy crowd had built up by the time the
Seniors ran out and there was an air of expectation among the
