all the records <strong>of</strong> savagery. The dead body <strong>of</strong> the martyr was removed from the<br />
place <strong>of</strong> occurrence by the local police and was handed over to his relatives. The<br />
Martyr was the only source <strong>of</strong> earn<strong>in</strong>g for his parents and his two unmarried<br />
sisters.<br />
KUPWARA INCIDENT - 12.11.91, at Kupwara 11 persons were killed by the<br />
forces. On this date two more persons were Killed <strong>in</strong> the Valley. The dead bodies<br />
<strong>of</strong> these persons was not handed over to their relatives for perform<strong>in</strong>g their last<br />
funeral rights.<br />
BANDIPORE INCIDENT - 12.11.91, the forces started <strong>in</strong>discrim<strong>in</strong>ate fir<strong>in</strong>g, due<br />
to which more than six persons were killed.<br />
SAKIDAFFER, SAFAKADAL INCIDENT - 13.11.91, the forces, started<br />
<strong>in</strong>discrim<strong>in</strong>ate fir<strong>in</strong>g on the <strong>in</strong>nocent people near Sakidafer, Sgr., due to which two<br />
persons namely, Mehraj-Ud-D<strong>in</strong> Dijoo R/O Chanamohlla Chattabal and one<br />
person resident <strong>of</strong> Safakadak were killed due to the bullet <strong>in</strong>juries received at the<br />
hands <strong>of</strong> forces.<br />
SOURA INCIDENT - 14.11.91, the forces, started <strong>in</strong>discrim<strong>in</strong>ate fir<strong>in</strong>g on the<br />
passers-by due to which one carpenter, namely,Gh.Hassan Gilkar R/O Soura, Sgr.,<br />
who was return<strong>in</strong>g to his home on the cycle received bullet <strong>in</strong>juries near Masjid<br />
Ibrahim, Fasalshah and died. The forces after a gap <strong>of</strong> about 10 m<strong>in</strong>utes started<br />
search operations and at the same time fired <strong>in</strong>discrim<strong>in</strong>ately.<br />
DODA INCIDENT - 16.11.91, at Doda one person namely, Ayaz-ullah Wani S/O<br />
Syeed-Ullah was killed by the forces when the forces raided his house. The Forces<br />
cordoned <strong>of</strong> his house and started <strong>in</strong>discrim<strong>in</strong>ate fir<strong>in</strong>g due to which he, his two<br />
m<strong>in</strong>or brothers namely, Ajaz Ahmad 14 years, Irfan Ahmad 12 years and sister<br />
Rabia 16 years were killed.<br />
GOJWARA INCIDENT - 26.11.91, the forces were patroll<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> the area and<br />
when some persons due to the threat <strong>of</strong> the forces tried to run away from the spot,<br />
the forces started <strong>in</strong>discrim<strong>in</strong>ate fir<strong>in</strong>g due to which two persons namely, Nisar<br />
Ahmad Zargar R/O Merjanpora, Nawakadal and Riyaz Ahmad Sheik R/O<br />
Ali-Kadal, Sgr., were killed. The forces chased and after tak<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>to custody one<br />
Riyaz who had received bullet <strong>in</strong>juries <strong>in</strong> his leg, <strong>in</strong>tentionally pumped bullets <strong>in</strong>to<br />
his body and he died. The forces did not take him to Hospital.<br />
URI, BARAMULLA INCIDENT - 28.11.91, it was announced <strong>in</strong> the media that<br />
24 persons were killed <strong>in</strong> an encounter at Uri but the local newspapers put the<br />
death toll from 40 to 50. However due to communication gap and cont<strong>in</strong>ues<br />
Crack-Downs and Curfew the actual number <strong>of</strong> martyrs was not ascerta<strong>in</strong>ed. In this<br />
<strong>in</strong>cident more than eight civilians were reportedly killed. In fact after some days<br />
some journalists and Human right organizations went to have a on-the-spot<br />
<strong>in</strong>spection and found that about 50 persons had been killed. The dead bodied <strong>of</strong><br />
about 23 martyrs were buried at different places and their names could not be<br />
ascerta<strong>in</strong>ed.<br />
