Best practices will be extended/spread in agriculture by means of<br />

training farmers, extension staff of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural<br />

Affairs and other relevant institutions.<br />

• The Local Development Initiatives Grant Scheme will promote measures<br />

regarding collective benefits, stimulate locally driven responses for development,<br />

especially rural development and contribute to the diversification of income<br />

generating activities in the regions concerned. Capacity building for local<br />

stakeholders will be realized by supporting small scale soft measures of<br />

collective importance for the regions such as promoting the image of the region,<br />

agro tourism, eco-tourism, cultural tourism, support to micro scale and small and<br />

medium sized enterprises advisory and training services, processing and<br />

marketing of local products, afforestation, handicrafts, carpet making.<br />

• The SME Grant Scheme will increase the capacity of and small and medium<br />

sized and micro scale enterprises through training and practical experience in<br />

generating and conducting projects, improve their access to information sources<br />

and consultancy services; and also stimulate entrepreneurial activity by<br />

supporting start-ups through training and providing privately owned small<br />

businesses with resources for physical investment and business support<br />

packages including marketing, management, technology transfer and innovation.<br />

• Grants for Small Scale Infrastructure will help to address priority needs in<br />

terms of infrastructure and hence to provide services vital for the local population<br />

and local businesses and thus raise the standard of life in the targeted regions.<br />

Expected results are indicatively as follows:<br />

Capacity of local public institutions in conducting proper infrastructure<br />

projects improved<br />

Vital local services (e.g. water treatment and purification, waste<br />

disposal and recycling) to population and local businesses provided<br />

and improved<br />

Capacity of the region in urban renewal and restoration projects<br />

improved<br />

Physical tourism investments supported (e.g. information centres,<br />

tourist accommodation facilities)<br />

Existing industrial sites improved or refurbished<br />

• Capacity Building component will provide support for the implementation of<br />

the whole project through Technical Assistance and also will satisfy the<br />

essential needs of management structures in capacity building in terms of<br />

equipment and materials.<br />

Taken together, the components of this integrated intervention will provide valuable<br />

experience for local and national institutions, directly involved in promoting development in<br />

regions of Turkey facing particular difficulties; and improve socio-economic conditions in the<br />

four regions by improving their competitiveness.<br />

Detailed attainment indicators are included in the logframe matrix annexed to the project<br />

fiche.<br />

3.3 Activities<br />

All components of this integrated intervention were organized with respect to the basic<br />

needs and priorities of the regions and characteristics of the target groups. This<br />

multisectoral approach prerequisites strong interrelations among components.<br />
