• Funding and supporting programs for the medical institutions in the regions of our presence. Education We invest in this area, since quality professional education allows preparing the future professionals, as well as forming the proper business environment in the country. Our ongoing education programs: • Modern Education national program, aimed at bringing the quality of education at the Ukrainian universities to match the needs of the real economy sector. The program is based on the specific actions, intended to improve the quality of higher education in Ukraine in terms of complying with the modern labor market demands. The program consists of several projects: Compass university rating - determines education at which universities offers the best practical value and job prospects; FormulaS – open master-classes for students, conducted by SCM top-managers. In 2011, the new project, Passport of the Profession, was added to the program. The project goal – contribution to creating the new type of professional standards in Ukraine, particularly in areas of critical importance to SCM Group’s business: mining and metals, energy, and media. • Joint programs with the local universities – for instance, Azovstal Steel Plant’s School-University-Plant program (Metinvest) and DTEK Group. Both programs are aimed at teaching the employees the contemporary technologies, used in Ukraine’s leading companies. • Programs, aimed at supporting the regional education institutions. Local business development We realize that SCM Group can only grow if Ukraine’s economy grows and local small and medium business develops. This is why we began to work on our own projects, aimed at developing business environment in the regions of our presence. 66 Sport We believe that investment in the sport education for children is the foundation of our nation’s future health. Historically, developing local sports, especially for children, has been SCM Group’s focus for a long time. Our goal is to support the development of a wide range of sporting activities by providing financial and material assistance to the sport clubs, schools, and activities. Our ongoing projects in sport: • Shakhtar Football Academies for Children – youth football development program (Metinvest). • Supporting sport activities and schools in the regions of our presence. Corporate volunteering We encourage our employees to participate in improving the quality of life of the vulnerable population categories. We support our employees’ voluntary participation in various social projects for orphaned and sick children, war veterans, and other unprotected constituents. Joint projects with the Foundation for the Development of Ukraine SCM implements social projects jointly with the Foundation for the Development of Ukraine, founded in 2005 as SCM’s corporate foundation. In 2008, the foundation changed its status to the personal foundation of SCM’s Shareholder – Rinat Akhmetov. The Foundation’s priority areas are modern education, health, cultural heritage, and targeted assistance. When participating in joint projects with the Foundation for the Development of Ukraine, we offer to our employees an opportunity to make their personal contribution to tackling the important social issues. For instance, annually, before the Children’s Day, our employees participate in the fundraising drive, aimed at helping the children in need of special care.
