Clay mining. United Minerals Group United Minerals Group Ltd. (UMG) manages SCM Group's assets in clay mining. UMG is Ukraine's largest supplier of white ball clay. The production capacity of the company's enterprises is approximately 3.6m tonnes per year, while the overall clay reserves of UMG's enterprises amount to approximately 300m tonnes. UMG's production facilities are located in Donetsk and Lugansk Oblasts. Currently, UMG holding owns the following major clay mining companies: • Vesko specializes in mining and processing clay. The annual volume of extracted clay is 1.4m tonnes. • Druzhkovskoye Mines Management specializes in mining and processing clay and molding sand. It is sourcing clay from the unique field with clay deposits containing more than 30% of aluminum oxide in the dry substance. Annual volume of clay extraction is 0.5m tonnes. • Ogneupornerud specializes in clay mining. Annual volume of clay extraction is 1.7m tonnes. • Kerammekhanizatsiya owns licenses, entitling it to explore and mine clay reserves at Dobropolsky site (about 12.74m tonnes of clay). • Capital-Service owns licenses entitling it to explore and mine white ball clay reserves at the Vidny–2 (9m tonnes) and Pokrovskoye (29.3m tonnes) sites. The total number of employees is 1,337 people. 52 Investments During the reporting year, UMG invested $2.3m in production facilities' expansion, exploration works, and project approval documentation preparation. Focus points of the year In 2011, the volume of clay extraction increased twofold year-on-year – from 1.7m tonnes to 3.6m tonnes. The volume of sales grew by 30% year-on-year – from 2m tonnes to 2,6m tonnes. During the reporting year, UMG made shipments to more than 20 countries.
